Dad : 'You know, my car could beat yours to 100km\h'.
Me : 'Your 2001 Impreza? Beat my 2013 VF Redline...that has also been tuned?'
Dad : 'Yeah'
Me : 'Your 152 hp Impreza, beat my 415 hp Commodore? Which also has launch control?
Dad : 'Yep.'
Is there a point where you can go, oh great, they've gone senile, time to put them in a home? Because I think I reached it.
So anyone else got stories like this?

The day I pulled up to the gas station in my side piped, big cam, built motor Mustang and the guy in the base model Porsche SUV argued with me that he could beat me in a race because my speedometer only went to 145MPH where as his went to 170MPH...

I had an uncle who was so convinced the 4x4 launch in his 400hp Tundra made it hit plaid, that he challenged me to an "1/8 or 1/4 mile drag race (my choice)" in my 06 GTO....

I don't argue with my dad, or dads, in stuff like this. There's always a sly trick involved, like he could beat you uphill in mud, and he has offroad tires.
The reason being that, I've found out dads have usually seen some shit over time. I know I have, and I'm only in my early 30's.

Well I did try to drag race a Lotus Elise in my warm-rod (~70 HP) 1967 VW Bug yesterday... I was well ahead of him until he and his AUDI S5 driving friend decided to have a race of their own...

Oh I love the addition of the caveat.
He's once changed 'I could beat you in a race' to 'I could beat you up the mountain in my car'. Lets see now, AWD Impreza, vs RWD big ass sedan up winding mountain roads with more twists then a M Night Shamalamadingdong movie? Well duh.

I had a friend in an Exige pull up next to me and rev it (semi-jokingly). He had never seen or heard my car flat out before, so when I revved back and the body rolled a bit from the torque, he turned pale white. It was hilarious.

Hearing our cars flat-out through this glorious tunnel in downtown Denver was totally worth the laughs at the next stoplight.

This is why being a dad is amazing. You can throw out a challenge, blank slate, and you know your kid is going to accept the challenge.
Then you show up with a rocket pack and crash helmet, after 3 months of training from Yves Rossy, and your kid is screwed.

I drive my mustang to work (landscaping supply warehouse) and frequently have guys tell me their f250 or ram 2500 or other diesel truck with a flash tune will smoke me. Even had a guy challenge me for pinks.

That's how just about every GTO story from '05-'11 goes because NO ONE knew what a GTO had until just a couple years ago... poor pontiac...

"Look at this fool in his Grand Prix Coupe thinking hes fast"

I recently explained to my mother what gears were.
She can drive a stick (not very smoothly).

1. I work with some diesel guys who could smoke you and a lot of other cars (granted they have a hell of a lot more than an SCT Tuner)
2. Do you work for STAR?

Yeah, some things people say are just so crazy I have a hard time not losing my mind. Part of me wants to laugh, the other part wants to argue with them until they understand how stupid they sound.

Anyone who ever told me about how fast their 60s muscle car was.

V6 Chargers were a big one for me. Granted, my Mustang had a black out rear plate, no rear wing and a billet grill w/o fogs, so from a distance the only way to tell it was a GT was from the dual pipes.

Word. I think V6 Chargers gave me more "ricer fly-bys" than Japanese cars during my GTO days.

Had a kid in a riced out civic ex on "performance" tires (read cheap all weather tires) tell my friend that he'd blow the doors off my friends "slightly altered" SVT Lightning on racing slicks. We were even sporting enough to give him a 2 second head start... He then amended his statement saying he'd kick our asses in a rolling start. Lol what a tool.
Should have bought that truck when he sold it. Kick myself every time I think about it.

I don't know I've seen 69 Camaro's run 10 second quarters. I think that is plenty quick.

How would you get any power out of a beetle motor n/a though and still fit it in the back while keeping it air-cooled and 4 cylinder? lol

Horizon. Essentially the same thing. We cater much more to contractors and companies than to homeowners though.

I had a friend who tried to tell me his stock 1999 Ford Explorer had 400 horsepower.

Big pistons/cylinders, BIG carbs (think Weber 48's,) cam the bejeezus out of it, aluminum crankcase, crazy big valves, super flowy heads, etc. The guy who owns my vee-dub parts shop owns a pretty mildly built 2.2 engined bug that has "traction issues," and he's probably running 150-170 HP. And his setup fits under the deck lid without having any modifications other than it being a convertible deck lid with extra vents.
