Yes! Do that.

That Focus wagon is a unicorn. The manuals are impossible to find.

Specs on the Taurus?

I learned to drive in a Focus. It wasn't a bad car at all, but it did end up dying three times. First time it was new enough not to be totaled or anything. Second time was due to a botched repair of the first incident, which luckily the dealer took responsibility for and repaired again at no additional cost. (Ha! Just kidding. They wanted us to pay them in full yet again, but we were able to talk them down a hell of a lot. Still, not cool.) Third time came years later and it ended up going to New Hampshire with a salvage title so some guy could repair it or something. We still don't really know WHY it crapped out like it did, so if that's a common problem I would steer clear. If mine was just a particularly unfortunate example, though, and they're generally better than that, I'd have to vouch for this. Very nice little cars, these are, when they're actually working.

2004 SES 160k miles some cosmetic damage.

It was a 2003 automatic sedan. I can only assume that a manual wagon would make it 800 times better, so that's already a plus. Not sure what all changed between 03 and 06, aside from the minor facelift.

Apparently it has a 10% stiffer chassis.

Been looking on and off for a 5-speed Focus Unicorn Wagon. Buy it and trade me for the Camry. :D

No, I don't think I will trade it for your Camry. I'll trade my Taurus for your Camry. How about that?

Maybe :)

What year and mileage is your Taurass? :p

The only cons though are losing the third seat and possibly a sunroof.

They are generally better than your experience.

It's too bad you don't know why it borked, because I could find a solution.

My 2002 SVT Focus has been reliable as anything.

2004 SES 160k

It has no sun roof and I I like it that way. I've put 6 people in my car a number of times.

Auto. There was no manual option for that year.

I had an 07 ZX3 5 speed. I got to put 106632 miles on it before it was killed. . . Only issue i ever had with it mechanically was the clutch slave being shitty. Check for dampness under the carpet and if you can lift up the carpet by the firewall to see if it has had any brake fluid leaking in there. Eventually the clutch master will go on the car. Oh shit I forgot about the motor mounts as well. If the car shakes like it has a really rough idle then the motor mounts need to be looked at. But all in all Ford got its act together in the reliability department with these foci.

I liked the way mine drove, I hated the seat with a passion. I went through 3 seat back cushions in my ownership of the car and the first was at about 15000 miles so there is that. As long as this car had regular maintenance done it should be a decent buy. Even though they claim the tranny fluid to be a "lifetime fill" I'd look into changing it out.

I'd at least try. An auto sedan is much more desirable to the average idiot than a manual wagon, so with some smooth dealing, you may be able to work something out.

No worries. Hope it works out. It was suprisingly peppy and I did some silly stuff despite having no rear sway bar. It was a decently capable car and the amount of shit you can haul is just flat out amazing.

The avatar was a 30's Ford truck with a dually rear axle running the heavy duty truck tires and the same with the front. I saw that truck about 3 years ago at the Primer Nationals in Ventura. I wish I could remember more about it but I was pretty drunk at the time and I'm just happy I remembered how to take a picture at the time. ..

just a word make sure the whole rear subframe is pretty free of rust. They get nasty up here more in the fastener department. If you get it clean it up good and keep those bolts oiled. I have worked on too many of them so I know. Also make sure the coil pack is a replacement (or at least has less grime on them than the engine compartment. Pretty fun little things though, although they are the spiritual successor to this

guy at my work has pretty much this car. We call it the Cadillac, it's become so established that his daughter is going around telling people that daddy drives a Cadillac.

Meanwhile, his wife gets to drive around in an '08 Taurus and even a Supercharged, convertible Mustang in the summer. I suppose it's his choice though, it's purely a commuter car for him, while she drives all over the state for her work.

I know a few people that rock them as DD's. One guy has a damn 46 foot Chris Craft Constellation and DD's this exact whip. Super cheap to run, more money for the boat, a little room in the back to haul stuff. Caddy though, that is hilarious

Haha, wow. I see stuff like that at the boat launch too, I'll see completely beat to shit trucks pulling hundreds of thousands of dollars in boats out of the water. Priorities, haha.

I want a boat. But the amounts of gasoline they burn is simply terrifying!

I have a 28' 1963 wooden Chris with twin 283's. I just party on it and start it up once in a while. Not the most efficient setup

Wow, I do love the looks of those wooden Chris's. That's exactly what I would do on a boat, anchor the damn thing and listen to some tunes and make some tasty cocktails. Oh and women, needs women on the boat.

I'm off to craigslist to look at boats, haha.

Are the wooden boats tough/expensive to take care of? More so than other boats?

depends on the condition you keep them in. Fiber is dead easy. Mine is a Cavalier Futura line so it is marine ply hull with a solid transom, it is pretty simple to go through yearly.

Haha, so my cousin has 26 ft powerquest with a 502 engine in it and he sometimes burns through 100 gallons in just one day. Which makes it atrociously expensive to own a boat, with frequent maintenance, rebuilds, fluid changes, you name it. I imagine when you are more laid back on your boat, such as it sounds like you are, it becomes somewhat more affordable to run a boat through the summer?
