The Gas Monkey Garage F40 just sold for 675k to Reggie f%ckin Jackson. That's a huge loss!

That blows. I know they bought it for 400K, and I have to imagine they had more than 275K in it, considering they completely rebuilt/upgraded it.

If memory serves well over a million. It is reality tv so you never know if the $ figures they throw around aren't just for show.

So what will an F40 owned by Mr. October be worth when he goes to sell it?

As I understand they bought a wrecked but not decertified F40 and "rebuilt" it.

The way the announcers were shit bagging it lopping the wing off would have cost it another 200k

Hahahahahahaha Oh man that is rich. Anytime they take a hit it makes me happy. That shop is super sleazy and I don't know why people think that they should be able to command a premium on price for what ever shit they sell.

Now take away the 10% sellers fee and they cleared 607,500. That black paint totally kicked their ass.

I recall Gas Monkey sold that to Dennis for 900k, which got them a like 200k profit.
So, it would be Dennis who has taken a loss on this sale, not GMG.

ya know... still I have to give it a very solid "would hoon" endorsement. if you can get an F40, take it I says. How many are floating around out there in the market? Yeah, it's not perfect, but I bet it still hauls.

So, modified and stanced cars that were stock undamaged before they someone touched them are okay, but a Ferrari F40 that was fucked cannot be modified? I'm still not clear on why everyone hates on this car. Yeah, those guys might be jackasses, or at least Richard is, but that car would never have been put back together. There's a ton of perfect examples in the world, so I for one can appreciate that they modified one that was already messed up. I actually even really like the look that they went with. Yeah, it's not for everyone, but at least they didn't seem to cut any corners. They got a lot of genuine parts, and they had some legit Ferrari guys do a lot of the heavy work. It seems to me that people are just hating on the car because the GMG guys were involved. If someone else did it, then it would be perfectly okay.

I am in no way judging GMG. I'm a numbers guy so knowing a vague idea of what the global cost of the project was for what the return was floored me.
I find the show quite entertaining and so does my wife.

I think the issue is that the shop didn't go down the more popular path of converting the F40 into a LM/GT with PROPER fixed headlights.
The LEDs look so out of place and the vents look like something out of 2 Fast 2 Furious (I'm surprised the Evo 8 from the movie went for only 42k$). Anyway, the black paintjob is fine, it's been done before and done properly.
They also wanted to whack the wing, which really shows how little they know about the F40/Ferrari market.
GTCL
> daender
01/18/2014 at 22:22 | 1 |
I agree. They should definitely not have even thought about removing the wing. That is a must for that car. I like it when people do something different than what is popular, especially when it comes to modding cars. I had a GTI, and I visited a lot of the VW forums. I have a mustang GT now, and I've had a CRX in the past. I've seen some poorly modded, riced out, gaudy, nasty cars in my time. I just hate it when you look at a group of cars, and they all look the same. Every red MK5 GTI has black wheels and a flat black nose piece for example. Everyone plastidips the same pieces on their car. Everyone gets the same billet grill. You see it in every type of car classification. I like seeing someone who is different. Someone who is willing to try something different, because it's easy to do the same thing as everyone else. Good for them.

I agree, I have a Miata and just about everyone has done stance, bodykits, etc to make their car unique so you need to find a new style or combination of parts no one else has done but still looks good. I'm trying to make my own black-chrome DYI-Mazdaspeed headlights to make my plain-Jane silver car look different. Anyway, adding LEDs to a 80's-styled supercar works as well as adding dubstep to 80's techno.

The Gas Monkeys and their entourage were busy creating all kinds of annoyances this weekend. Richard had a different chick on his arm every time he walked by. These guys are a bunch of idiots that build crappy cars. Just stay home next time.

That's what they said they paid for it on the show, was that ever corroborated? I know there were several long threads about it on FerrariChat but I didn't look through them. They may have over inflated what they had in it for the show hoping they would get more when they sold it.

Dennis bought it up front for 400 or 500 and Richard was paying parts & labor which was a little more than 250 I think. Dennis bought Richard out at 400. But yeah, still a loss. We don't know if Dennis was the seller at Barret though. Maybe he sold it to someone else.
Soloburrito

Some folks on Ferrari chat said they paid way less than the $400k they claimed to pay on the show.

So Dennis probably didn't get beat up quite as badly as we may believe.

Bummer they lost money. I just don't get how people can rip on them for the work they did though. They took a F40 that was completely trashed with little hope to drive again, and brought it back to the road. "Oh but they did unspeakable modifications to it!!". Like what? They upgraded the turbos, painted it black, and threw some different (read; pretty damn gorgeous) rims and tires on it. Sure, they made the interior a little nicer, because ya know what? Odds are the future owner is going to spend more time looking at his interior and driving slowly than he will at the track, so the stock, spartan interior has really no benefit for them.
So yea, they lost money, and sure, they could have painted it red, but you cant get mad at GMG for what they did.
Also, non-red F40s are the tits.

Ass Monkey Garage deserves the hate because their point man is a huge ass douchebag who seems to be using Ass Monkey Garage to spam his name out rather than building quality cars that deserve it. They did so much wrong to the F40 it's amazing they managed to find a schmuck to fork out the cash. They gloated about how after they fix up the car it'll be a "Million Dollar" car, hype how they need to use genuine Ferrari parts, get it certified and such.......
......only to paint it black instead of going back to red, ripping out the interior for a completely boy racer mod, doing such a hack job on the frame and other mechanical bits, replacing the headlights, replacing the rims......pretty much going against what they said earlier. I'm glad the car went for the price it's recorded, which proves that Ass Monkey was blowing smoke out of their asses.

ok, lets be clear on this. gas monkey didnt lose a cent on the car.
the reason?
the guy who bought the car for them (steve or w/e his name was) bought the car from them for 900k
- the 400k h put into it, he got himself a f40 rebuilt for 500k
gas monkey put in 275k? i think? so gas monkey walked away from that deal with an extra 200k, and the person that took the hit was the new owner, NOT gas monkey
