When I was 13, I got to sit in the cockpit of B-1A #2 at Edwards AFB. Highlight of my young life. It was one of the birds that had the ejectable crew capsule for supersonic ejections. Cost cutting eliminated that and a few other features to give us the B-1B.

Dyess AFB, Abilene, Texas.
I play trumpet in the orchestra up there, and spend my free time out at the base, watching the planes. Dyess hosts the 7th Bomb Wing of the Air Combat Command, one of only two bases to support the B-1 (the other is Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota). Dyess also hosts the 317th Airlift Group, with various versions of the C-130. And you can often catch a rare visitor. In October of 2012 I spotted this E-4B Sentry, and was lucky enough to photograph it when it departed.

Excellent timing - one of our B-1 squadrons (34th Bomber Squadron) here left this afternoon for a 6 month deployment to the Middle East. They've been flying formations off and on all day for the families.
Also, not sure if you kept up with the B-1 we lost in August over Montana, but the review board a few weeks ago determined a faulty fuel baffle caused fuel to leak inside the plane and explode on hot parts.

Greetings from Ellsworth - a squadron of B-1s just left this afternoon/evening for a 6 month deployment. Lots of cool fly-bys and formation flying earlier today. Phenomenal airplane, I have fallen in love with them since I moved here. I'm about 2 miles from the base so they tend to fly just a few hundred feet over my house.
We were having lots of B-52 visitors (5 a day or so) but they've all but stopped with the cold weather. Rumor has it Minot is doing runway repairs soon and is looking for a holding area for the B-52s in the meantime. But, a rumor is a rumor.

I actually work in air safety but hadn't heard that; we're better than that

I'll always be fond of the B1B. My dad works for Rockwell.... albeit, not in the now-Boeing aero/def department.
Another favorite Rockwell plane:
I want one, someday.

Here's a quick link to an article http://listen.sdpb.org/post/report-de…
There was a copy of the official report on some news sites (our local KOTA was one I believe) that could be downloaded - you know, for the uber nerd ;)

My dad worked on the maintenance systems for these planes when he worked for Rockwell in the mid-80's. Needless to say, I love the B-1b Lancer

I've seen a few other stills and videos of night operations with afterburner from Nellis. You can get pretty close and grab some good shots. In fact, f86sabre's still could almost have come from this video.

when kansas speedway opened, the inaugural race was an IRL race.
my wife and i had tickets up at the top of the stands, and before the race they had a B-1 from McConnell overfly the track. He took off to the southwest and we figured he'd returned to base.
about 5 minutes later that lancer buzzed the stands, couldn't have been more than 50 feet above the tower and then he stood that bird on it's tail, lit the burners and took off straight up. my wife was walking back up to her seat and about rolled down the steps.
It was amazing to see someone fly something as big as a 737 like it was a F-5
