Why are you laughing at me?!?!? What you think I can't afford it?!?!? Well you're right. The engine itself is 9 grand. :'(

I want this in my RSTi project what are the specs on the motor? Does it come in red?

Which Subaru engine is this?

the only Tomei I want is this one

The hell? I googled Tomei and she came up.
I actually also want a Tomei. This one! Hopefully in a few years, there will be used ones for like 500 bucks

Looks like an EJ series the timing cover looks alot different on the FA's. i cant tell if its 2.0 of a 2.5 without seeing the number at the top.
EDIT: its a 2.5 I zoomed in on the picture and it says it on the front of the case.

Would it even fit with the stock trans?

Don't know if they come in red, but I do know that it is a 2.6L short block. Some people turbo charge it up to 500+ hp, I am sure that if I wanted a 350hp FRS it could handle it. There was a pikes peak car with this engine in it, and it sounded AMAZING.

I want to say it started out life as an EJ25 either that or an EJ20(probably the EJ25 as the bore and stroke are very similar). Tomei changed it to a 2.6L though it also comes with different internals as well.

I honestly don't know. It should, I want to say that the transmission is out of an Impreza and this is an EJ engine, so it should bolt right up. . . probably.

I hope they build an FA 20 like this in the future. Preferably when I have money to spend. I like owning street cars that are built for racing. My RSTi is going to be prepped for rally when its finished but I still plan on driving it around town from time to time.

I think HKS has a stroker kit for our car, with cams. Total displacement is 2.2L after. Don't think the power gains are worth it though.
I like making mine drivable race cars. Once the car steps down from daily duty, it will become a weekend car and then the fun can begin.

Money is the limiting factor, and I don't have nearly enough. Maybe when I get a job as an engineer you will start seeing crazy shit like this in the car :D

If you have the dollars to pay for a Tomei block you have the dollars to pay for an Sti box if the factory one doesnt bolt up.

I'm probably going to go forced induction on mine in the future. I haven't decided between turbo or super yet though. It would be fun to design and build a twin-charger set up for it though but I'd probably blow up the engine.

From what I read a while ago, the transmission fits the motor, but fitting both the transmission and an EJ25 in the frame is a no go. Because the stock placement is so low, you need to 'massage' the frame a bit.
Can't remember where that was though, I think speedhunters

\m/ sweeet!

And you would probably need to run race gas for it to work. I am probably going to go supercharged if it can make 300whp, if not then turbo it is!

I would like to second the Marisa Tomei sentiment.

I'm leaning towards turbo as well. I've driven cars with both, but I prefer the way the turbos feel over supers although the super chargers instant response is a bit nicer than the turbo lag but that can be helped with tuning.

you can have something that makes the same power for much cheaper having a local builder doing it for you. But remember, don't forget cams, EJ's really wake up with some nice cams.
![]() 01/16/2014 at 16:33 |

Yeah, I am big on the instant response of the supercharger. I also think turbos might be more work to maintain than the supercharger.

This comes with some nice cams. It is also slightly stocked and bored out. It can make 500+ hp with a turbocharger, so this is a pretty good engine!
![]() 01/16/2014 at 16:37 |

Mine makes a reliable 400whp right now, and cost ~1/5 what that does. I don't even have cams... which is sad, that powerband would just be that much more fun.

Do you have an EJ already?
![]() 01/16/2014 at 16:42 |

Child's play. You can get a Cosworth EJ for $16k . If you're gonna go, go big.
![]() 01/16/2014 at 16:49 |

That is a low compression ratio. They really want this to be turbocharged don't they? That is very very sexy though, particularly the forged part.
![]() 01/16/2014 at 16:54 |

Yeah, these are definitely intended to be turbo'ed. Which makes sense as they are selling these as STi engines. They do make a little higher CR, not sure if for NA or just a shorter life turbo.

I heard stories of people having faulty engines, then asking for a short block when getting a warranty replacement.

I don't think I could do that. Unless maybe my engine "fails" and I go to a Subaru dealership and ask them. You think they will help out even though I have a Scion?
