The cam phasing that is.

Kinja'd!!!

The 5 liter v8 in the RC-F, likely a variant on the 2UR-GSE in the current IS-F, will take VVT-iE to the next logical step by taking the electrically actuated cam phasing solenoid previously found only on the intake cam to now include the exhaust cam. What this means is this is the first engine with fully electric intake and exhaust cam phasing. That may not sound like a big deal, but it allows for much more adjustment in phasing allowing for more use of the Atkinson cycle for reduced fuel use and more overlap for high speed power. As a bonus, there is less parasitic drag from the loss of a hydraulic pump for cam phasing. The result is 450 hp, a bump from 417 with better emissions and economy. Neat! The 2UR-GSE isn't a screamer, but it does have lots of torque and is a very good engine, this will make it even better!

First engine from Lexus or ever?

Because I'm pretty sure other companies already phase both intake and exhaust electronically.

From what I can tell, other companies phase only the intake or exhaust electrically. The source says a first ever, but more research would be required to be definitive.

Hmm. Might need to research that myself as well.
