Welp, talked with my mechanic today about the cars I picked out of his collection the other day.
He
intends to keep the 280Z for himself, as he has planes for an LS swap.
Which sucks because it was my favorite, and easily the top choice among
oppos.
The Comanche and the RX7 are both outside my pricerange, sadly, which leaves just the Rabbit and the CRX...of those two I prefer the CRX as parts are more available, and frankly I think it's cooler. Also he only wants 500 bucks for it. Looks like I may have my project sooner than anticipated.

I've had an 87 crx and an 87 rx7. True, the honda might be cheaper, but the rx7 is loads more fun, unique, and hoontastic. Where is the mechanic and how much is the Mazda?

Those little things can be a ton of fun... great gas mileage as well. Well, at least some of them. SI's, not so much.

Eastland, Texas. And I'm not sure exactly how much he wants, but he said at least 1500 bucks, since it runs and drives. When I left he was searching ebay cause he wants to swap the rotary for a 2jz.

Mine will likely get a B18c swap and various other mods, so my mileage will probably suck. But on the other hand, I have a pair of 40mpg dailies already, so meh.

I'm partial to Rabbits but there's always been a soft spot for CRX. Hard to find these days.

I had an 87 HF in college. Got 40mpg, but only had 70hp. It was still a fun little car. I bought it for $800 with 240k miles. Sold it 2 years later for $3500 (after a maaco paint job). The plastic panel between the headlights are notorious for cracking, and near impossible to find.

More pics of the CRX? I'm diggin it. I like finding old forgotten cars like this.

I see a couple around but they're nearly always scrapheaps or modded. This one will be modded too :)

The finds here in WA by this time are rusted out. If only I could use my time machine and go back to high school and grab a couple.

Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit!
Nothing wrong with the CRX though. Search eBay - clean CRX's are expensive nowadays!

I know, right?

Wow they really are. A sound investment, then. Atl east until I ruin it with mods.

That was the same color scheme as my first "bought from a dealership" car back in 1987. A 1985 CRX si. Man, that was a fun car. Got rear ended by some lady not paying attention in her Mercury Cougar around '93 or so. Ended up picking up a '90 CRX si a few years later.

Seems like a lot of folks used to own one.

I would guilt trip the guy with the Z. Be like, hey man how long have you had this here, and we both know it's just going to be here rusting away... haha.
Of the CRX and Rabbit I'd probably pick the rabbit due to my partial-ness to german vehicles (and the fact that my Porsche 924 right now is basically a rabbit with a fancier body on it). The rabbit has some mods that you could sell to the MK1 people online and make your purchase money back.

hehehe
You don't really want to get 45 mpg anyway :P

Nahh, I want a toy. I have two 40mpg vehicles already.

The front fenders are also plastic and will most likely be cracked, or fragile. You will love this car though. Redpepperracing is a great forum for third gen Civic 1st gen Rex tips.
