All they need to do is disable screen rotation when it's in video mode by default.
The result: Users can still take vertical videos to view on their device, but the second they forward it or upload it, it will remain in the proper widescreen format, but be sideways.
Let their friends police it. "Dude, stop sending me that sideways shit!"
I blame the iPhone, and users who don't realize that when they turn the camera on, that it is no longer a phone, and you can hold it like the CAMERA YOU JUST TURNED ON!
I just watched the video, and the app is brilliant.

Nah, I'm not gonna rely on dumb/lazy people to do that. I'll just make phonemakers/carriers/whoever install this app, and attach a 10 year prison sentence for anyone who wants to delete or mod it.
Actually, 10 years sounds kind of harsh...

I'd rather have the camera app play the Stop Vertical Video Syndrome video on YouTube every time video recording was selected.
Eventually someone will get it.
