Was the Jaguar X Type a reliable car? Please don't just say "its a Jaaaaagggg, its unreliable" because that doesn't help. Any links? Proof? Owners?

My girlfriend's grandmother's Mystique isn't a reliable car.

head off to Barns and Nobizzles and read the Consumer reports used guide. I'm about to because I can't find definitive answers to my questions. I ask something and someone says that maintenance will make anything run a million miles. True but there are some ccars that won't even rescue. If you have time to replace a blown intake gasket every 70k miles on an S-10 when your work demands 100% uptime of attendance then go for it. If I have funds to replace aCVT altima transmission that likes to destroy itself every electrical reset at speed then ill buy that.....but i don't in either case. So I need the definitive Consumer Reports answer....wich sucks because I'd like to just know.

It's based on the 3rd gen (I think) Mondeo, so you'd kind of expect it to be alright. But this doesn't look good:

Other than that, you can usually get a fair idea how reliable/expensive something is by having a look what an aftermarket warranty for it costs.

I have an 04 X-type as a DD and it only stranded me once when the transfer case blew up. However I will add that I'm almost certain that the stealership was to blame because they'd just replaced the sump gasket (which requires the transfer case to be dropped so that you can remove ONE bolt wtf!?!) so I'm almost certain they didn't refill the fluids because they overfilled the transfer case when the replaced it. And they consistently fucked up services when I was still taking it to them.

Also never take you Jag/Land Rover to the Great Britain's in Willow Grove, PA. They are effing incompetent on top of being deceitful.

Edit: Explination on the transfer case issues, the transfer case only takes around 1 liter of fluid so if you're not careful it can run dry real quickly (like mine did).

I actually work at a jaguar dealership. They are decent in terms of reliability. However, from that era, the most reliable jag you would find is a S-type, so I would go for or of those. Also the s-type is a better car all around, IMO.

Mind you this is jaguar reliability we are talking about. Which is actually cheaper and easier than audi, but you find issues that require multiple visits to sort. For instance a leak that we have to track down. You typically don't have that with a Honda or mazda.

My dad had the wagon. He couldn't drive it for a month because the AWD went out and he had to wait for the warranty to kick in to get it fixed. Also slightly bent the edge of a rim, had to replace it for over $1k. I would say no.
