Who thinks that in 5 years or so, there are going to be a whole load of CLA45's blowing their motors? That much HP is great and all, but 26 PSI of boost is a lot.

It will be a GLORIOUS day :) A day of overbore and fun, more displacement and more boost :)

Good riddance. I'm sure it's lovely car to drive but it's too goddamn small for its own good.

Doesn't the A45 have the same horsepower and boost? I just feel like the A45 would have the same problem if not worse.

They'll have a short life, but they'll live a fuller life then any other Turbo-4s in existence.

Yeah, they are basically the same motor as far as I know.

Is that just an overboost figure, or is the regular amount of boost 26 psi?

Anyway, even with lower boost pressure, you'd still see blown turbos in 5 years—they're not Japanese Toyotas!

They're the same car , the CLA is merely an A-Class sedan, just like until a few years ago a Jetta was nothing but a Golf sedan.

The boost pressure is not that big a factor. I run 24psi max on a little motor, too, but its only at max .5% of the time (would be .1%, but I race the crap outta it) and mine spins up FAST. Hell, I spun the pulley off my supercharger at 163MPH and still drove the car home 1100 miles away. Changed out the front seal and bearings, pressed it back on and was back in the boost the next week.

Now the reliability of the turbo is a different issue. Most pressure cookers (super and turbo) kept within their efficiency range will last an average of 6-10 years depending on usage. Stuff breaks! Bearings wear. Oils need changing. Of those that do fail, I'd be willing to bet half are poorly maintained and abused, and the other half - Shit happens. I doubt anyone owning the car is going to call it poor engineering, that's just life.

Or to quote/paraphrase Clarkson "That is the throb of a turbo charged flat four engine. A sound which all over the world heralds the imminent arrival of a moron."
