The other tenants in my apartment all got new cars recently. The old dodge stratus was traded in for the Equinox. The old civic coupe was traded in for the Rogue. And a nearly brand new buick regal turbo was traded in for the lincoln because the owner is a young asian girl who has gotten her car stuck in like 2" of snow (her family is LOADED). Meanwhile, I'm in full winter mode like so:
So far, I've had to help all of them get out of trouble in both their old and new cars. Is it any surprise that all of them are driven by women who just couldn't give two shits about cars/driving? I think one of them hit another when they were in a hurry to leave one morning. The top picture doesn't show it too well but the driveway is quite steep down to the street so when it's cold out it's an ice luge unless you just creep down it and learn how to look for traction.

So all of them traded in cars for...cars jacked up on stilts.
Sigh.
Nice Mk III btw. It's sad that your car is more desirable than, like, 150,000 dollars worth of new car.

It's not so much that I care what they drive, it's that despite all of them getting AWD CUVs, they still managed to get themselves stuck. Trying to tell them how to get out was frustrating too since they only know "Mash gas and aim the wheel". The regal turbo made me mad though because of jealousy. She's a college student, so I have no clue what her dad was thinking in doing that trade. And all of them are native to michigan like myself. Hell the equinox owner came down from the UP. No excuse for her getting stuck.

I see beige but not the colour. It's strange.

"Is it any surprise that all of them are driven by women who just couldn't give two shits about cars/driving?" Do not cross post that to Jezebele

Again, I wouldn't care that much if they didn't get stuck in the snow and then ask me to help them get out after talking about how nice it will be to "not have to worry about snow".....If they were doing fine and I was getting stuck it would be "New neighbors got non-jalop cars......and I'm a jalop stuck in a snow drift"

At least the Lincoln has nice wheels...so there's that.

So lemme guess, they got new cars instead of just getting winter tires right?

Basically. But I'm not on winter tires either. I picked really aggressive all-seasons meant for colder temps.....I guess a balance between winter and all-season? But I'm doing just fine. Then again I also tried to tell them to carry a bag of kitty litter and a small shovel to deal with "Snowpocalypse 2014". Except for the one day where the driveway was pure ice covered by a short layer of very soft snow, I've been fine.
But just smashing the throttle in a traction control equipped car that is stuck doesn;t get you magically unstuck.....I wish I could beat that into people.

I don't have first hand winter driving experience since I have lived the majority of my life in the land of sun and ridiculously hot girls wearing no clothes for most of the year (SoCal) and have just moved to the northern part of the state now. I don't live where snow falls but I imagine it to be fun for hoonage but butt puckering to be worried about being tagged by a dipshit who is too stupid to know how to drive in winter. . .

It's worse since all of us work downtown and downtown is at the bottom of a very steep hill with lots of traffic lights. We had really bad freezing rain for a few days so I had to take a 10-mile trek on the freeway and assorted side streets to get home because my street was essentially closed on the hill portion because no one could get up it. I'm mildly sure all of them tried to go up it......studded tires and chains are not allowed in Michigan so guess what? Even with winter tires, you're probably not going up a sheet of ICE. Especially not from a dead stop at a 20+ degree angle. So I just took the heavily plowed and driven freeway and drove a bit slower than usual. I got home about 10 minutes later than usual considering my normal drive is about 5 minutes or so. I don;t recall seeing any of them when I left for work the next morning so my guess is they stayed at other places after trying and failing to go up the hill......

Who buys a car that expensive and doesn't give a shit about cars? I don't get it.
Europeans who don't care seem to buy the cheapest acceptable cars.
