Two great classic shows from the 80's, Magnum P.I. and Miami Vice, had starring actors that were extremely popular at the time. However, equally important to a car person are the often-referenced cars that are practically full-fledged co-stars: Sonny Crockett's coke white Testarossa and Magnum's 308s. Those were obvious choices considering the fact that they were on posters in every boy's room at the time. Plus, the name is one known as exotic to just about anyone. Of course, these cars were not the only significant ones in the series—Rico Tubbs' teal 1964 Coupe De Ville convertible was an usually seen and sometimes talked about car among others in Miami Vice, which was usually full of incredible cars and sometime centered around them (see: Porsche 906 chase in Miami GP episode).

Actually, an awesome Daytona Spyder was the main car of the undercover vice cops until it was blown to shards by Liam Neeson and his RPG early in Season 3 due to a lawsuit by Ferrari, which provided the show with the two '86 Testarossas. Magnum P.I. featured Higgins' somewhat boring Audis, as well as a GMC Jimmy and later an XJ Wagoneer as utility vehicles and an R107 MB. While I must say that Miami Vice is better if you're looking for cool cars, and probably a better show overall, Magnum P.I. really does emphasize the importance of the cars—in fact, the care of the Ferrari does become a major part of the show. Anyways, enough about the TV shows. If you have Netflix and have not seen them, go do so now or live a life of wondering "What if?" and doubt.

————————————————————————————-

The cars you may decide between are the 328GTSi QV (seasons 7-8, with a 4V/cyl engine to make up for power lost by the addition of Bosch FI) and the '86 cocaine Testarossa . Which would you choose if you were in paradise and needed a flashy, fast car? (Oh, and to make up for performance differences, please note that the 308 has a a targa top.)

Given the choice, I would spend most of my money on the TR and cocaine.

The rest I would waste.

If price and maintenance is no concern, just desirability, the TR by a mile. Actually they aren't crazy expensive for might as well be the best looking car of them all, and one of the most iconic as well.

Robin Masters provided Magnum with a 328 in the later seasons? I thought it was always a 308? If that's the case, 328! If it was between the 308 and the Testarossa, then the Testarossa gets my pick.

Edit: according to a thread on Ferrari Chat 328s were only used for interior shots in later seasons. For exterior shots of the car 308s were still used. I don't think that counts, so I have to go with the Testarossa.

Not even close, Testarossa all the way.

Testarossa, no question. Those straked vents are hallowed. No one will ever attempt that design element again, out of reverence.

This is an easy question. Of these two I'd have the 328 every time as it is closes to one of only two Ferraris I can hope to (and want to) afford: the 308 GTB and 400i (one of the few with a manual of course). I'd be more inclined to take the Testarossa if it were one of the few early models with a single driver's side side mirror located high on the A-pillar.

Props for using the model number. Though I'd rather have an earlier 512bbi.

Finally, another opinion! The testarossa in Miami Vice was actually a single-side mirror one, but I can still appreciate the 308 for other cool aspects.

I know it was! Thats why I mentioned it haha. I love the look of that side mirror. And yes, I think the 308 was one of the best looking Ferraris ever made. Yes , its slower than a new Accord V6 but then that's not really the point of driving a 308 nowadays is it?
