I'm fascinated withh this thing. Big Saab fan but never seen one (sold only in Scandinavia I think), the idea of something as notoriously unreliable and shonky but cool as a Lancia getting the Saab touch is interesting. But was it just a Saab badge or were these any better than the Lancia?

Let's put it this way.. I live in Norway, an hour or so away from the Swedish border.. I've only seen ONE Saab 600 in my 33 years here on earth.

Is that down to no-one buying them or just being typical Lancias and falling to pieces after a year?

Both I guess.

I'd love to see what Saab would have done with the Integrale...

They would've spent ten years developing the perfect group-b car.. just so that they could be five years to late :P

Well, it's based off a Lancia. That already means it's amazing.

Saab also sold the Autobianchi A112 alongside the 600 in Sweden.

Apparently, Saab helped Lancia with the development of the Delta, giving it less rust-prone steel and so forth.

Then Saab and Fiat AG collaborated on the "Type Four" platform that yielded the 9000, Thema, Croma, and 164.

Saab and Lancia working together. Two of the quirkiest, most interesting Euro car makers. That sounds a lot cooler sitting here than seeing the results, actually.

I've been reading into these a bit... They've made some cold weather mods (which I think screwed up the thermostat somwehat) and other stuff, but in the end it was just not all that suitable of a base vehicle. I think even some Lancia emblems were left in plain sight. I b'leev it was also a bit overpriced due to something or other. I don't have any material on me, but if you spend 15 minutes on google, you should have a wealth of information before you. :) You can prolly find some on saabsunited or saabhistory or some such.

I've never seen one, but it made me think... What if SAAB got their hands on an HF Integrale version? Eh, eh? :D That coulda, shoulda, woulda kicked ass.

I know with the 9000 they were a lot better than the Lancia/Fiat versions, maybe why 9000s are quite a common sight on the roads (here at least). I still think the best seats I ever sat in were in a top spec 9000. That A112 is just embarassing though.

They could have done something amazing had they stuck with Rallying through the 80s and continued to collaborate with Lancia...

I always thought the A112 was a highly acclaimed car. What made it embarrassing?

The 9000s had better rustproofing and body integrity than the other Type Four cars. It also tended to cost more. Except for the Ferrari-engined 8.32s, that is.

Tbh, its just the looks. A Saab badge on something that looks like that is wrong...
