The Toyobaru is not a MX5 competitor in the market. I know it's the same size and is RWD, but the clientele is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. If you want to compare the Toyobarus, pick the Genesis Coupe, the V6 muscle cars, hell, even things like the Veloster Turbo and Civic Si are a more relevant comparison!

According to everyday driver, the Toyobaru can be compared with the Lotus Elise, and the Genesis Coupe is no where close to it.

Is it?

Has anyone actually got demographic data, or is it done on hunches?

While the pony cars don't have the biggest back seats in the world, there's a reason some people nickname them "babymakers". I can't possibly imagine that being a common thing in toyobarus. I highly doubt people buying toyobarus are the type that have a need for a backseat. A need for a place for tires, yes, but a backseat? Ehhhh......

But the miata is a roadster so that separates the two anyways. The FR-S is an enclosed 2-seater with more storage space. Think "breadvan" Z3 coupes rather than hardtop miata. Then you have the pony cars which can all dust the other two in a straight line in base trim. The hot hatches are much better at the daily grind but are also likely to be bought by people who already have a fun/project car and want something year-round capable of daily needs. I think the FR-S lacks a true competitor right now and I don't know if that's a good thing. I fear after a few years of decent sales, without a competitor or two it might see sales fall out as everyone who followed the launch hype got one and everyone else got a different car.

Haha. Hahaha. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahah.

Sorry. I was just thinking about the Toyobaru being close to a Lotus.

My non-scientific observations of the FR-S in Atlanta would pretty much dispute your claim. I've seen a large number of 40+ women driving them. Not aggressively. I've talked to a couple and they got it because they liked the looks.
