Not "your" first car. Literally, the first street-legal vehicle you ever drove.

For me it was my mom's Chrysler LeBaron vert. Looked pretty much like the one below. I was maybe 14 years old and my parents weren't home. I only drove it in the driveway. It idled abnormally high; I drove up a significant hill without ever touching the gas. Then carefully parked it back where it had been.

1981 ford Fairmont was the first car, but never on the street. First time on the street was my moms Subaru GL10 turbo (110 hp wooooo!) stick, 4wd wagon

A 1988 Toyota 2WD pickup. It had the peppy 4-banger and a manual transmission. This was the perfect pickup truck. I learned how to clutch in one of these when I was 12.

I think it was a Ford Escort Pony hatchback. My father was going to junk it for my grandmother, but before he did he let me take it around the ATV track we had made in the backyard. I think I was only 14-15, but this built up my confidence and let me practice the basics. Plus it was a ton of fun

When I was a wee one, maybe 6 or 7, my granfather sat me in his lap in the drivers seat of his new at the time Lincoln Town Car, and let me "drive it" He did the gas and brakes, I did the steering. Probably only covered about 200 feet of straight orchard roads, but it made for a pleasant memory.

Pop Pop loved Lincolns and always had a Town Car, he was very proud of them, but not as proud as he was of his family. He never had one of the newer silly ones, but the last land yacht ones. My dad called it the Starship Enterprise, and it was big enough for me and my brother to use the foot wells in the back seat as our own private play areas when we went on road trips. I miss that man and wish he was around to lend advise as I got older, he was a real old school kind patriarch who drove Lincolns

I drove my Dad's 197X Chevy truck (I'm not sure what year he had so damn many) through a trail in the woods when I was 12. It was rutty and the wheel was sawing back and forth. It was pretty scary to me at the time.

It's was a 1986 Ford Country Squire. For my 12th birthday my mum let me drive the wagon around the block. Best birthday present ever

The Ram 50 was based off of Mitsubishi's Triton pickup, but back then all the Japanese pickups looked the same haha.

Started driving these things on the farm when I was 7 or 8. My first driving lesson was my grandpa yelling 'go get the truck' Luckily at that point the truck was an automatic because most of the time we had manuals...if it had been a stick I probably would have failed to deliver and had my hide tanned.

A Vauxhall Corsa diesel from around 2008/2009. It was my instructor's car when I started learning.

Thankfully, he switched to a far nicer Citroen DS3 about half way through my set of lessons.

1972 Buick Skylark 350 hardtop in lime green metallic. Cragar wheels, too.

I was 9, it was 20, and I drove it at low speeds around our property. I was in love.

My asshole stepdad sold it a couple years later, after promising it to me when I turned 16, made me count the money he got for it, and then told me that if I'd kept my bike clean (??), this wouldn't have happened.

So my first car ended up being an '84 Tempo instead.

I think it was a '78, reg cab 5 speed. Bright red, I was 8. I drove it up and down the street a few times with dad in the passenger seat

Ford Aerostar. I think it was either a 1990 or 1991 model. I was about, oh, 3 or 4.

I backed it down the driveway and out into the street. The neighbor called my mom to tell her that the van had rolled out into the street.

Bonus points if you can figure out *how* I managed to do that.

Let me explain.

I was being picked up to go to some class I took when I was young, and it was cold so the side doors were frozen shut. The driver was letting people in through her door, and when she got out and I climbed in, the van started moving.

She had forgot to put it in park.

I quickly grabbed the wheel, stepped on the brake, and put it in park.

I was 9 years old.

She flipped her shit, but was thankful I was able to bring it to a stop only a few feet from where she left it.

I wish I had a picture of it, but it was my dad's 1983 Chevy S-10 Blazer 2-door. It was the copper and blue paint scheme, but dad had added some subtle fender flares, American Racing wheels, and bigger tires. It gave the car a subtle yet aggressive off-road stance. Later, the stock 2.7L V6 crapped out, and I think he replaced it with a 3.4L V6 (I believe), which made it more fun to drive.

I learned to drive and did most of my high school driving in a Pontiac Sunfire convertible. I learned to drive manual on a Geo Metro with a slowly dying clutch.

That full size saw more air time than Jordan and still kept chugging along. I loved that car to my core. My earliest gearhead memory was dreaming about tubbing the rear, and building the motor and drag racing the thing, and I was like 6.

When I was about 6 years old there was a season when I would walk a few blocks out from my house around the time my dad was coming home from work. When I saw him I'd wave him down and he'd let me sit on his lap and hold the steering wheel for the remainder of the drive home.

The car was a 1971 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus. It had a 318 and an automatic. The interior was exactly like the video below (except for the aftermarket steering wheel and tach), but the exterior was medium blue with a white vinyl top. It also had dog dish steelies. Dad says he dragged vs. the teenage neighbor in his Mustang Mach 1 and beat him, but there were no witnesses.... It's plausible because inexperience + 3-speed manual does not a winner make.

This habit of walking out to meet my dad and "drive" home may have gone on for a few weeks, but I kept pushing farther and farther out until he saw me looking for him a good half mile or more from home, on a pretty wide thoroughfare. Mom made sure she had a close eye on me in the evenings from then on.

1999 Ford f-250 7.3 liter powertroke. I was 13. It was in a parking lot with my dad. I was amazed with how easy it was to drive. I thought something so big would be extremely difficult to drive.
