My head needs to stop telling me that bimmers must be RWD and that AWD German wagons must be Audi

Old stereotypes are still stuck in there

I wish my benz had the Oil filter with a standard hex on top instead of an oil filter wrench. Thats a pretty cool idea and convenient too!

EDIT: nice job kinja crop

Isn't it funny how stuff gets ingrained in our heads?

Just cause Audi was the first German automaker to mass produce good AWD sedans and wagons doesn't mean that BMW and Mercedes aren't good at it as well now.

But whenever I think of German AWD my head thinks of Quattro rally cars and sexy Audi wagons.

Bravo Audi - your marketing works well

It's a brilliant long game. Part of me thinks this was the plan all along. The other part thinks it's just luck and good engineering.

I don't like Audi the most, but I respect them the most.

I think it was an ingenious plan.

VAG gained R&D cost savings by making the entire VW and Audi lineup (other than a couple high end Audis) FWD. They knew most people don't want FWD luxury cars so they created AWD versions of those same cars at a lower price point than separately developing FWD and RWD cars.

They spent money on racing and established the Quattro brand to make their AWD seem premium and fast.

It's very smart.

Are those seats....vinyl? Or as BMW calls it, "leatherette?"

Also, ugly non-M wheel without the benefit of being heated...

Otherwise great package. The M54 series engine is a dream

BMW vinyl seats are terrible. They feel like hard plastic.

They're also embarrassing. I never knew they came with vinyl until I was test driving a 3 series and thought "man these seats are really slippery, what's up with this?"

BMW should've offered nice cloth seats instead of trying to fool people with leatherette. Or, more appropriately, all BMWs should've come with leather or alcantara.
