If you're coming, tell me in the comments!

Kinja'd!!!

Ok so the meetup is still on everyone. We will meet up at West Town Mall in Knoxville, TN at 11:00am on January 12th (this Sunday). Then we will check out each other's cars until 12. At 12 we go to the food court and eat. Then we will either drive around and do random stuff or, more likely, go up to Pigeon Forge (a good drive) and race some Go Karts. There are a few places to go, but the best place is 25 bucks so you'll definately have to bring some money with you. We could always cheap out and go to cheaper places though. If anyone has any questions, ask me.

I've seen it at a restaurant once. It was a few years ago, but I remember it well. Amazing car....

Do I get to drive that there if I agree to come?

(No. No you do not, PS9. Now go back to your poor person cave.)

It's one of my favorite cars.

I think it looks better than the 458 Extra Special model

It's aggressive but still has some classiness to it. It doesn't purely look like a pissed off robot

And it's *relatively* affordable. You can buy a low-mileage one right now for about the same price as a new 991 GT3

LOL. Not possible right now. But if it was I could find one locally for $155K

I'm just happy I can keep the beetle. I'm scheduled to go to the dealership tomorrow morning to finance the payoff amount. It will remain my company car and work will make the monthly payments.

I had a minor freak out when the dealership told me that the car has to go through a safety inspection just like it would if I was turning it in at the end of the lease. I know from someone else's experience that Porsche rapes you if your tires aren't N rated, and mine aren't. But I talked to the sales guy today and he said that it's not a problem since I'm buying the car. They're only going to check to ensure there is enough tread on the tires. Which there is because the fronts are brand new and I got the rears last year.

I've heard of that, glad it worked out. Porsche dealers are always really fun .

Thanks. I'm glad too. I was freaking out.

Had it been an issue the only resolutions I could think of would have cost me a lot of cash out of pocket. But it would have been better than throwing away my perfectly good tires. I would have had to:

1. Come back to the dealer with N rated tires and put my current tires in storage to use later. I would lose the labor cost of having the current tires removed and then re-mounted later.

2. Buy a 2nd set of wheels with N rated tires. Then I could put the current wheels and tires in storage.

I probably would have gone for option #2 cause it would have been an excuse to get another set of rims, haha. That could be handy if I later tracked the car. I could drive around on the rims with the cheaper tires and then mount the rims with the better tires when it was time to drive to the track.

Makes sense. A part of me thinks you were hoping that they would've told you to replace the tires...

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > Brian Silvestro
01/08/2014 at 22:06

Kinja'd!!!0

Haha you are so right.

I really can't afford another set of wheels and tires right now. But if I was forced to get new tires then it would make sense to use my credit card to do it to avoid the wasted labor costs, right?

Can you please move to CA and buy my last house for a decent price so I can stop being so broke?

Believe it or not, I had the pleasure to drive an F430 Scud a few years ago when i used to do Valet. Best Car I've driven or will ever drive.

AWESOME!!!!

Did you get to drive it beyond parking lot speeds? Did you take it out on a run like in Ferris Bueller's Day Off? :)

I have had a lot of seat time in a 2005 F430 F1 Spider. I can't wait to drive the Scud one day and see how different it is. I imagine it feels night and day different because:

Moar Power

Faster F1 Tranny

Much Lighter

Bigger brakes that are also carbon ceramic

The brakes on the 2005 Spider are a bit disappointing. I can imagine how much better the MUCH lighter Scud feels with better brakes.

Well me being a broke college student doesn't help. From what I've heard CA is the "place to be" when it comes to being an automotive enthusiast. I'll probably look for a job there just as an excuse to move there when I'm done with college. Then I'll buy your house.

If it's not sold by that time I'll be bankrupt :)

Unless I'm able to rent it out and generate enough rent to pay most of the monthly expenses. I don't think rents have gone up enough for that to be possible.

CA is great for cars because of the weather.

But it's not always great for having good driving roads. Some cities having mountain/canyon roads nearby. But not all.

The best roads can be accessed during road trips. There are some great roads that connect the 101 and 5 highways. If you're taking a trip from north to south or vice versa you can take the long way. You can start out on one of those highways and then take the mountain road to connect. The connections are long and twisty!

WARNING: This why you should not valet your car if it is "fast," unless money is no object. However, you can think of it as a way of sharing the joy of cars like this.

I didn't "ferris" it, but i was able to get a significant amount of speed.

The ramp we were parking vehicles in that night was exceptionally large and had TONS of open space on the lower underground levels.

The acceleration was ludicrous. I've only driven two things that could match the raw acceleration, a Nissan GT-R and a Yamaha R1. On an uphill slope it was doing 75 when I chickened out. The gearshifts were like an iron fist jamming the clutch in.

The brakes were so good they surprised me when i had to brake to make the turn. I probably could have gotten another 10-15 out of it had I been brave.

I've have never heard a car in person that has sounded as good as the Scud did. While I was driving it I had the windows down and the roar the engine was orgasmicly deafening. The reverberation in the ramp just made it that much more epic.

I've driven just about every make and model of car there is, but none ever as epic as the F430 Scud. Some notables:

A Gallardo, Fezza California, Mercedes SLS, Several GT-R's, Many generations of M3 M5 and M6, R8 V-8 and V-10, Maserati GT, AMG's, Audi RS models, Lotus Espirit, 911's (including a Turbo and a Gt3!), and many others. None of these can match that Scud.

I Forgot to mention two of the funnier things about driving it.

1.) I must have taken me a few minutes to figure out how to get it out of reverse.

2.) Backing that car up is like taking a leap of faith. There is ZERO visibility behind. Especially when standard sized cars are parked around it.

That is so awesome!!! You had a great time that day! So cool you had that space to stretch its legs.

You have just affected my life. I now want to do whatever necessary to get this car. You have driven way more exotics than I have.

I have never even heard one in person, let alone been in one.

I must make it happen. Somehow.

I'm liking the way the weather is shaping up. Two days of rain to wash away the salt and a clear day Sunday. I'm going to make a concerted effort to make it out Sunday. No promises on whether the SLS makes it out (will depend on whether the road still has so much salt it looks like a layer of snow) but I'll try and make it. If these continue into the spring and summer I'll be there no doubt. i8 coming in at some point, if BMW ever decides to let people with orders know anything about delivery dates.

I'd be willing to help organize it. I just ask that it waits until I have a self-propelling Fiat... Maybe the park out by Percy Priest Lake? (It totally isn't being suggested because it's close enough that I can push a Fiat Spider home, if it breaks.. Not at all...)
