Lockheed Martin maintainers complete preflight checks on the Royal Netherlands Air Force F-35A Lightning II prior to a sortie at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. The RNLAF completed their first joint strike fighter flying sortie Dec. 18. (U.S. Air Force photo/Samuel King Jr.)

I LOVE going to my parents house in Navarre, Fl. Nestled nicely between Eglin, Pensacola NAS, and Hurlburt Field. Ospreys, F-35's, and best of all going to sleep to the gently thud's of AC-130 Spooky practice fire at the range.

Start looking for the J model Spectres with the curved prop blades. The AF just retired their last H model.

Next time I'm down there I definitely will. Hurlburt is the HQ for the AF's Special Operations, which I suppose also oversee all the AC-130's. I thought the H's were the retired already with the U's being most prevalent? The Spooky's?
That area puts me in heaven. Day trips to either the Pensacola Naval Air Museum, or a further trip to Mobile, AL to see the USS Alabama along with their small but impressive aircraft hanger. A while ago when I was down there I was lucky enough to watch some practice Osprey beach landings from a big fishing pier. Locals like telling stories about when the AF tested the MOAB at the Eglin range as well, said it felt like a very very very gentle earthquake.

Just read all about the J variant. Took out one of the cannons and added guided munitions....just made bad, badder.
