...and there are way more references, allusions and inside jokes in that movie than I had any idea were there when it was released. Above: the only picture I could find showing the Corvette/Miura hybrid they put in the film.

You should check out the special features for the movie. They go into great detail (as Pixar is wont to do) about how they created the visual sense. They based it around how people in the fifties/sixties thought the world would look in ten/twenty years.

Netflix is nice, but if you want some pleasant surprises, check this out (it's a subreddit, it's safe). Rush was on there yesterday, but they usually get removed every couple of days. If you're in the mood for some random selections, hit it up when you have time. There's usually a couple good movies on there, and the selection changes every few days.

Great movie to watch with car eyes is Tintin (not to go on an animated film spree, but you reminded me of it). Allegedly the author of the original comics was a huge car nut, and all the vehicle he put in were real vehicles sold in France at the time (like the Citroen Traction-Avant, or various early British roadsters and the like). So naturally, the Spielberg movie adaptation uses entirely accurate (if debadged for legal purposes) vehicles.

i love animation. Tintin was already on my list but i'll move it to the upper area of my list (I didn't get around to watching it the first time around)
i like to throw car nods into my work whenever i get the chance (i draw stuff for a living)... the last few were a Citroen, a Morgan, and a C3 Corvette. i had a coworker on a previous project indulge me with all the car homages he had thrown into the project (he is a vintage Ferrari fan), culminating with him sneaking in Ferrari 308 taillights on the rear of a cruise ship design in a cartoon (he said he did it for me - we shared a fondness for the "affordable" Ferrari). surprisingly, no one questioned why that cruise ship had taillights...

Ah! It's pretty great, actually. Plus it's Spielberg, so it takes itself seriously without trying to hard.
I run a business doing cinematography, and it would seem that we're like-minded in the sneaking-cars-into-things-that-really-aren't-about-cars respect. Plus I run a website for my (designated) automotive cinematography as well. And if cruise ships have taillights, they should probably have some higher up, too. You know, for visibility. And stuff.
