"MoparKetchup" (moparketchup)

In less than 48 hours I'm jumping on a plane to Jacksonville, FL, rent a car, and go on a road trip with my fiance crossing several states to arrive at my final destination: San Antonio, TX. I'm going to be there for a while to do my LL.M. All of this comes down to the most significant factor an Opponaut can think of: What car will I drive? Still thinking about taking !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but I'm going to give it time and think about it when I get there.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Wish me luck.

What's your budget? If you ant something fun, eye-catching, and almost guaranteed to give you no signs of trouble at all, you can never go wrong with a P1800.
They can be had somewhat reasonably, but that's more if you plan on keeping it (or if you're rich).

If you and the woman fancy a drive through the hills of austin just let me know man .. Me and my lady tend to make it up in the hills once every two or 3 weeks and I think its about time we do it again.
Austin is about 30-45 minutes north of San Antonio depending on the power given in what you rent haha ..
What are your rental car options ?

The budget is $5000 for a used car. But I could also go for a lease on a new car (I'm not planning on keeping it and I'm not rich, hahaha).

Nope. I've studied in the states before, but this is a different ballgame for me. I'm a licensed attorney in Puerto Rico and I'm thinking of taking the Texas Bar Exam while completing my LL.M. 10 years after going to the states for the first time, and returning to the island in 2008, my mindset is a little bit different now (let's say a little bit more goal oriented).

CRAIGSLIST ROULETTE!
1) Budget for about $2k. $1k if you want to play on hardmode.
2) Load up Jacksonville craigslist
3) just click the auto link in the for sale section, put your upmost budget in the 'max' section, and buy whatever the fuck sits at the top.
4) Blog about your difficulties in trying to make it cross country on a heap you brought on CL here. Get FP'd. PROFIT! (well...not really since no one will pay you for the article...but...you know.)
Or your could remain sane and not do any of that. But that's no fun, is it?

And that my dear friend, is where I'm going to fail (in the Craigslist Roulette/Road Trip of Death Game). You see, I want to survive this state-crossing trip so I can later enjoy a long life of having fun in choosing what car I can get for me and my future wifey. Maybe I'll write about my road trip and the places I went to eat. That's not even close to the epic Craigslist Roulette, but it's something.

First, the bad news:
The future wifey will work a couple of more months here in the island while I study there. Aaaand the rent car will be used for at least a week to do the grueling process of finding a job and finishing up some campus paperwork.
The good news:
When I get a new car (used, leased, beamed by the USS Enterprise, whatever it is) I'll start exploring what car events are around, and I think we can meet up there.
LL.M. :
LL.M. is an abbreviation of the Latin Legum Magister , which means Master of Laws. In Latin, the plural form of a word is abbreviated by repeating the letter. Hence, "LL." is short for "laws." Legum is the possessive plural form of the Latin word lex , which means "specific laws", as opposed to the more general concept embodied in the word jus , from which the word juris and the modern English word "justice" are derived.

Good luck with the LL.M.! Are you planning practicing in the US after graduation, or are you getting the LL.M. to enhance your practice back home?

Thank you! I've recently started working on removal (deportation) and asylum cases in immigration court in the island but wanted to satisfy my academic knowledge for good with this LL.M in International and Comparative Law. After that I'll probably stay in the states and delve in the immigration field.

that seems like the most lawyer way to say "I'm a lawyer"
And I have no idea what kind of cars your into .. I would expect you to be able to get a whole lot of fun out of a used car that you dont have to worry about putting miles on .. also depends if you work on your car or take it to a shop for maintenance and repairs.
My Datassun treat me great and as far as the hill in Austin are concerned my car is a loud monster that comes screaming by once in a while ..

Awesome. There certainly is no shortage of work in that field! Finding clients that can pay might not be quite as easy, but I doubt you will ever have a shortage of work!

Yep, I'm a lawyer. I'm into big V8 american sedans and I don't mind loud screaming monsters passing by sometimes. Those are epic, specially that Japanese monster you got there.

hmm ... well depending on your pocket book maybe you should wait for the new mustang .. it will have IRS (if youve been under a rock this past year and didnt know)
3rd Gen Viper ?
C6 Z06 ???? This would be fun/epic .
or a C7 Stingray ?
Again I have no idea how much your trying to spend so it makes it pretty difficult thinking of cars to buy .

You're right about the pay, but I love what I do because if I can help someone from being removed and therefore preventing significant suffering from family members who stay in the States, it feels really rewarding!

Believe me, I'm still a young individual carrying a hefty student debt who will start out with cheaper car-owning options. I'll wait and see how things work around there.

Just throwing this out there (into the place ppl throw random ideas )
I got my car for 2600 bucks it gets 20 mpg all day long doesnt make the craziest hp numbers but TQ and HP are just a motor swap away .. not to mention being a light hatchback with IRS .. I couldn't ask for more .. although the sound system blows donk dick.... that can be fixed .

It isn't a bad deal unless the entire thing is rusting to pieces. Even so...for $1k it would make an excellent rent and dump.
