So he talked to the owner again. Turns out the car does idle. But as soon as you give it more gas it will run too rich. So I assume this means that it needs to be dyno-tuned again. This to me seems like how a modified engine would behave if it gets reset to stock tune. Turns out the boost controller also got messed with.
The guy stated in running condition it should be worth 10 grand. Is that NP or CP?
For reference, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is the old article.

I still say the daughter accidentally reset it trying to make sure the NOS wouldn't blow the welds on the intake.

Someone else's project with unknown but major problems? CP at any P. This is not a car you're ever going to regret walking away from.

I'm pretty sure my coworker will be buying this, he's been flipping cars for a long time now, so he is very skilled at working on cars. But doesn't know a whole lot about the 2JZ and the programming for it, so it is somewhat unknown territory for him. But he likes the challenge. So, if it were anyone else I'd say don't do it. But this guy is very skilled and likes this sort of stuff. He spends all his free time fixing up anything from mopeds to three wheelers to all kinds of cars.

Well, if he's buying it for a challenge, I don't think I need to wish him luck on that front...

Haha it's not like he buys things because there's something wrong. But he buys things that have a few things wrong so he can flip them for more money. If it really does just need a tune to run right he could net a healthy profit. Depending on how much he has into the truck he'd be trading for it.

Haha yep, that's a risk he takes.

It's not a risk, it's a racing certainty in this case. At best the owner really has screwed up his own tune by being an idiot, but then can you imagine how many other things he'll turn out ot have got wrong? Worst-case is he's deliberately hiding bigger problems with the tuning issue.
OK, maybe worst-case involves him being a pschopath, timed incendiary devices, and other stuff we needn't go into.

Have you checked the Jalopmeter?
If you do take the bet, it solves the original question, because then he'll have to buy it so we can find out who was right.

oh lol, the jalopmeter. Yeah I can spare 3 points of that, lol.
I should find out on Monday if he is the proud new owner or not.

could get one that runs better to start, http://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/4238544984…
I am not familiar with 2JZ swaps either, so not sure on how the mods stack up.

Hah, I have no idea. I guess I'll just see how it all turns out, haha.
