We know that it will be better than Cadillac stupid CUE system, but will it be better than the reworked iDrive?

I haven't tried cue, but im convinced that the trouble with cue isn't the interface, its the Layout of the menus. This mouse or touchpad approach may or may not be a better interface. I think its personal preference.

And the slowness, and lag. The interface is ok, if you don't mind the 90's look.

I think this touchpad will make all the difference for the following reasons.

1. Your cursor is not obscured by your hand

2. You have much more control over where you interact with the screen when you only have to move your finger (with a touch screen on the dash your entire arm is subject to G forces in every direction)

3. The raised sides give your finger tactile boundaries that allow for heads up control (move your finger to bottom left for climate, bottom right for sound, etc.)

4. A track pad is much more effective than any "mouse system" because when your finger stops moving, so does the cursor (I'm looking at the new Lexus IS)

And that's all I can think of.
