Screw it up and end up owing a million dollars to someone.

You and For Sweden sure know how to make a guy follow his dream, are you a motivator by any chance?

No lack of ambition there.

I would never spend that much money on an idea...unless this million dollar idea earned me 2 millions.

Thanks, and people wonder why people become psychos and start shooting motherfuckers in malls.

Being an entrepreneur is like gambling, being an innovator is like gambling on everything you got...

1) Follow through on it. Make sure all the nitty gritty details were nailed out. Get the patent/copyright/trademark/whatever crap done as quickly as possible.
2) Once the final product is ready, sell the shit out of it and let a bigger company handle the rest of the headache getting it to market.
3) Profit on your patent for the rest of your life.
4) Go live in the woods and never need to work again.

Easier said than done, since the main detail could ruin the product itself.
Also, why would I want to live in the woods? I'm not a Canadian lumberjack.

Because you asked me what I would do if I had a million dollar idea. You didn't ask about yourself.
Also if the main detail could ruin the product, then it doesn't sound like a million dollar idea...

Cars(or most motorized vehicles) didn't seem like a million dollar idea either, since you are traveling with fuel and explosions. Knifes either, since the main detail can cut you. Like I said, being an innovator is like gambling on everything you got, innovators by nature, are the ones whose dreams are clearer to them than the reality that tells them they're crazy. The critical phase between a million dollar idea and an innovation, is the process where you make sure that everything works, get that right and you are almost there.

So... basically my entire first point reiterated...
Knives were developed BECAUSE they were dangerous and sharp...
Cars were developed because it was a million dollar idea... anything that changes the game is a one million dollar idea.
Now if you want to develop a system where you can breathe and drink at the same time, then yeah I can see how that detail would break you, but that's not a million dollar idea. If your idea has any way of making people's lives easier or better in any way, then it has the ability to be a million dollar idea.

Let's say that my idea will make people say "Hey! How come we never thought of this before???" The problem is that corporations either won't listen to me or will steal my idea. Unfortunately I can't work out the imperfections on my own, let alone the production and sales process

If that's the thought, then it sounds like a good idea. That's also why I said get into the patenting process early and quickly, that way you can fight the corporations when they try to take it. Once the idea is there, that's the tricky part trying to market it to the companies so they will buy it. If they do, everything should be set, they will pour money into it for the production and sales and such. Biggest part would be getting the patent and getting the corporation to buy into your idea/product. If you have the drive to do it, I say go for it, not many people have the abilities to come up with these ideas :)
