Why do I still not have this game?!

The driving mechanics suck, though. Do not want!

That's pretty much what's kept my away from GTA as well. Coming off from the original Driver on PSX to GTA III on the PS2, I just felt like there wasn't as much focus on driving and car stunts as I would have liked...

If only you could go to a store and buy it.

Do you have the monies?

They aren't bad. GTA IV tried to go with a more realistic system and it made the driving almost unenjoyable. Simulation physics are great for racing sims, but not for escaping the cops.

The physics in IV and V are lightyears ahead of the III generation games. (III, Vice City, San Andreas)

I know right? One can only dream...

Why wouldn't they be great for escaping the cops?! I could totally see a GTA with Forza physics being fun as hell.

It wasn't really the physics that turned me off, I guess... I might be wrong as I didn't play any of them enough to get really far, but most of the driving during missions seemed just utilitary, I mean, you drove from A to B to complete a mission, but driving rarely WAS the mission.

Ah, I see what you mean. That's probably a fair point, although driving definitely features more heavily in V since you're no longer in NYC traffic all the time.

I can't even escape M. Rossi in Forza.
Maybe I'm just bad at racing games, but I can't imagine dodging traffic, watching the map, figuring out a route, shooting, and trying to avoid road blocks and spike strips AND making sure my weight transfer is smooth as I turn a corner, let alone making sure I had begun braking 2 blocks ago.
Additionally, landing a jump only to discover that your car is now useless would take a lot of fun out of things.

Well the same thing would have to apply for the cops as well. -Meaning that when you're in a Ford GT going near top speed down the highway, the cops won't magically be able to catch up to you as they do now. I really believe all those things would even out quite nicely.
And as for jumping? Maybe an aftermarket rally suspension kit could take care of that?

Slippery cars cheat.

It's not on PC yet. And even if it was I'm still afraid it might melt my PC.

I don't think the cops have magic catch-up in GTA V. If you have a sufficiently fast car, you can easily outrun them, but it's the ones ahead of you that are problematic.
Personally, I'd probably put the game down after the tenth time I failed a mission because I overcooked a turn and spun out. A lot of the fun of sandbox games for me is the over-the-top stuff you can do, like evading army helicopters by flying through a wind farm. If I want a supremely accurate version of GTA, I'll just go actually rob a bank.

See that's kind of what I'm after I guess. A "getaway from the cops" simulator in a way. Why?! Because if I ever get the cops chasing me for some reason (and I can't stop for some other reason), I want to be as good as possible at it from the get go (ohh don't act like you never fantasized about this).
I guess the bottom line is that there are so many over-the-top sandbox games today that I'm kinda hoping that one of them would mantle the roll as not-so-over-the-top sandbox game. GTA IV was pretty close to this "in a way" but then they changed direction for V which has made me a bit disappointed.

Eh, all the cars in IV just felt overly floaty. V's handling feels much more precise and easier to make it do what you want.
I see what you mean, though. There really aren't any simulation-level "chase" games out there.
I mean, except for M. Rossi. Fuck that guy.

I got it for XBox but I have always had more fun with GTA on PC - the car mods, being able to adjust the handling and speed and everything, being able to actually import models of real cars, it's so much fun. Wait for PC.

Yeah, I have an Xbox and all of my friends have it but I also want if for PC for the mods. Maybe Xbox now, PC used further down the road? I don't know...

I have a hunch (and this is only a hunch) that if V
is
released on PC* that V will run better that IV did. IV on PC is notoriously CPU-intensive. Comparing the PS3 versions of IV and V, V is dramatically quicker to load, even though it has much more content. I'm taking this as a sign that V has been coded more efficiently.
*Has a PC version ever been confirmed or even hinted at, or is everyone just assuming? People thought RDR would be on PC...

I'm the opposite. I've played through a few times on PS3, but never more than a few missions in on PC. I'm too busy creating & testing my own mods to actually play ;). So, yeah, I'm still looking forward to a hopeful PC version, since I have a ton of LASD, CHP, & LAPD skins & reference material from IV that'd be more at home in Los Santos.

That's what I will do

That's exactly what I do... I'm playing the game through on xbox but will just blast around in mods on the PC!

I hated it at first, but 5 to 60 hours later I absolutely loved the driving.
