New patent for batteries can significantly extend the range of their cars. Sweet. Also... less rare earths used.

Lifetime and cost issues are associated with Lithium-air batteries?

Interesting, seeing as the battery pack in the Model S weighs 1,000lb any significant reduction in weight would do good things for performance/range. I test drove a Model S last week, and even with its full-up curb weight of 4,600lb the thing absolutely flew.
