Basically what happened is that they were using 4 tug boats to move the USNS Martin from one port to another port (we have 2 navy bases and a large freight port here). Who ever was in charge of checking ship height/tide/etc obviously failed because when they were pulling it under the Mathews Bridge the top most point of the ship hit the bridge (which has been undergoing maintenance for the past couple years) resulting in the broken support beam. They are still inspecting the full damage but as of right now the bridge is close indefinitely. Traffic is normally pretty bad... now its just going to be even worse :(. We normally have 7 bridges connecting the two halves of Jacksonville and those turn into parking lots every morning so now with 6 I might just remote in lol.
