Fun fact: my band almost opened for Steppenwolf (well, now they're a tribute band and call themselves Magic Carpet Ride - no joke, and yes, they are sad, lonely, bitter assholes) this summer. Their booker came to one of our shows, he liked us, and so we got invited to meet Magic Carpet Ride. They were all pricks. We didn't get the gig because we didn't get along so well, but hey, it was cool that we almost got to open for someone so big. Whenever I tell that story to any of my high school teenybopper friends, they say, "Who?", and I say, "They wrote Born to Be Wild ." Usually greeted by mostly blank stares.

I was first introduced to them as a band via my dad and some of his albums, including eventually an original LP of At Your Birthday Party.

He had at one time or had listened to some of the band members while they were still The Sparrows, prior to Steppenwolf.
