Seems like a pretty fair ranking, but what about reverse?

Reverse isn't a gear. It's a way of life for losers.

Getting hit by a car. Only having 4 and not being able to select them yourself because you are in a POS Camry, or other assorted econobox.

Just like the brake pedal.

:(
I kinda like reverse. I'm thinking I would put it just after 5th and ahead of 2nd.

I tend to disagree, but I drive a slow car.
I would rank them as follows:
1. 2
2. 3
3. 5
4. 1
5. R
6. 4
7. 6
Unless I have a rental, in which case I would rank them as:
1. D
2. 2
3. R
4. N

Man, some of those gears on the main and countershaft look pretty rough. Hope that ain't your transmission.

The number of gears is too damn high!

what is the red gear for?
![]() 09/25/2013 at 20:21 |

Probably a Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). These are normally driven off of the final drive, but can be found in quite a few different places.

Interesting. Here's how I'd rank them:
1. 4
2. 3
3. 1
4. 5
5. 2
6. 6
1st is scary because high-horsepower, high-torque, light car, and RWD make things scary with low gearing. Also it approaches the top of the tach damn quick. 2nd ranks so poorly because it's a...wait for it...shifty son of a bitch that doesn't like being shifted into - ever, but it redeems itself because it's also the best gear for acceleration. 3rd wins because it's responsive at all RPMs and is flexible. 4th is...boring. 5th is an OD, but a good OD that is responsive above 2300 RPM, and 6th is the worst because it can't do anything but hold a steady speed above 55 MPH.

Looks like a tachometer take-off but I could be wrong.

i also thought that but, when you have the clutch pedal in, nothing is moving on the gearbox so it isnt, and speedometer also isnt, because when youre in neutral the countershaft rotates so it would mark speed even if youre not moving

Somebody shared this to Oppo hence the reply to an old post. But I can't believe nobody seems to have seen what you did there.

I thought you had a manual, though. That doesn't count.
