Pictures I took of ads I found in some magazines that were hiding in the back of a closet at my school. Even though I wasn't alive during this period, I sort of miss ads objectifying women (such as a VW ad below) and ads that down play a competitors product. Ads of this era just seem more... friendly (or something)

God, I feel old. I remember most of those ads.

The "hand you this line" ad is super interesting. It's pretty much a direct copy of the German one, but the line in German is a double entendre about the Iron Curtain, literally translated as "how long can we hold this line." Both a line about how long VW can keep selling a very old car, and how much longer the West could hold off the Commies.

Great ads, here's one of my favorites:
Also:
They knew what it was even before it became famous as one.

I have this ad hanging on my wall. My dad cut it out when he was a kid.

Safety comes first! Come on, darling, let's get in our seatbelt-free, drum-brakes-sporting, 389-cubic-inch GTO and see how fast Mommy can get this baby to go!

The best. I generally hold advertising in pretty low regard, but DDB's VW ads are pure beauty. Fucking genius pretty much sums it up.

Safety comes first at GM. Hence, GTO being used as a family hauler.
