Welcome to One Car Garage, in which I choose a manufacturer, and you decide one single vehicle that they make or made (no matter how old, no matter how exclusive) to live with for the rest of your life. This is your only vehicle, and all expenses are paid for, including price of entry, insurance, gas, etc.
Yesterday’s trip to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! was incredibly fast-paced, sexy, and fun (even if we couldn't start our cars 85% of the time). Today we’re going to be heading to a country we have yet to see. We’re going to be tackling the safety-minded Swedes over at Volvo.

This is another tough one for me, as I’m not all that familiar with the Volvo line-up. I know I find the 1800ES to be a sexy car, though it has some downfalls that I’m not entirely willing to look past. I think I want to stick with my “AWD with room to haul” mantra here. That points me in the direction of the V70R. I’ll take the second generation with a manual transmission. It seems just about as good as they come; 296 horsepower with roughly the same amount of torque (when measured in pound feet), and a company that’s built a name on safety. I’d feel just as comfortable hauling the (hypothetical) little ones to school as I would hauling ass around the local autocross. Hell, seeing as I’m engaged to be married, I ought to look into these things.

850R. Wagon. I don't care that there's no picture since I'm in my Physics class but I called it, it's mine. Rawr.

The 2014 V70, preferably an R if they make one.

Agreed...I have nothing more to add

I actually plan to buy one as a work mule, then fit it with all sort of practical home-made mods like a power charger, a retractable soft rear windshield, and more of that sort. Same colour and all, although not with twin exhausts because if I buy one it's gonna be a diesel.

I think you are creeping on my posts Eric :)

P1800ES 'cause you can never go wrong with a virtually bulletproof shooting brake.

So you want to drive around in a Sugge?

It hurts me to say something else than my own.. So I won't.

I'll take a big, comfy S80.

Sadly, I haven't been spending nearly as much time on Oppo as I probably should. I completely missed your post. Though, if I recall, this isn't the first time my OCG post mimicked a post that you made prior. These are often marked up a day or two in advance though. I pop in when the go live (11:00 AM PST) to check out the choices , though.
Also, that Transport contains entirely too much awesome, and I'm surprised it hasn't flooded the world with awesome-sauce yet.

Yes! Yes! A million times yes!

Sugga*, which directly translated means bitch... So it's the Volvo Bitch, FYI.
![]() 09/25/2013 at 14:15 |

No thanks I'll walk. Volvo hasn't made one decent looking car in their entire history. Practical yes. Ascetically pleasing? Ugh, no.

That car eats souls
![]() 09/25/2013 at 14:15 |

I'll take the C30 Polestar concept please. 451hp, turbo I5 attached to a haldex AWD system and Quiafe LSDs in the front and rear? What's not to love?

there is one local to me. Those are brilliant. So much want

shoot not time that is my concern, the guy wants 35 grand for it...

Yes, the Sweedish way.
And speaking of, what happened to Sparf, does he still exist?
![]() 09/25/2013 at 14:21 |

The S60 Polestar. Because Volvo's BMW M5.
![]() 09/25/2013 at 14:21 |

I call it a shed, and it is a Volvo so there.
![]() 09/25/2013 at 14:22 |

Okay, I know it's Sugga in Swedish. I was caught thinking in Norwegian there.
But I've always thought it will translate into female pig?

'70 142 B20. Really pleased with it so far, putting it into winter storage this weekend..

This one.
![]() 09/25/2013 at 14:26 |

Thanks! I hope interest remains high when I inevitably have to make the move from automakers to vehicle classes/styles/etc. I also have to decide when to call it quits as far as automakers go. I can't imagine I'd get very many participants with marques like SMART and Weismann, or even Triumph and TVR. :P
![]() 09/25/2013 at 14:30 |
|
eehm sorry.. How can you just forget about the p1800?
I'm pretty sure that they didn't pick that car for it's practicality when shooting the saint.
![]() 09/25/2013 at 14:31 |
|
I think there is enough flexibility in this concept to make that move. You have to be getting down there on marques left that have some fans. You ever done Lada or Tatra?
![]() 09/25/2013 at 14:31 |
|
Yeah, I am pretty sure he is still around here regularly...
![]() 09/25/2013 at 14:31 |

Probably a P1800ES with an engine swap.
![]() 09/25/2013 at 14:31 |

hrm I have to give that one credit. It is ascetically pleasing.

And bulletproof: http://www.autoblog.com/2013/09/18/irv…
![]() 09/25/2013 at 14:35 |

Oh fuck, you're from Norway?, guess I can't trick you there then :P Sugga sure enough means female pig, but what I was kind of aiming at was the way the word actually is used. Bitch, which of course means female dog, translates to tik in Swedish. Now, when we want to use the word bitch we either use it or pick the most offensive domestic equivalent we have, which by chance happens to be sugga. For some strange reason we just don't go around calling each other tik.
![]() 09/25/2013 at 14:38 |
|
No, I haven't ventured that way yet. I may end up doing Lada, because I love the Niva so much. I'll take a look at Tatra as well to see if it'll be worth it.
![]() 09/25/2013 at 14:39 |

New enough to be reliable, but still RWD and fun.
![]() 09/25/2013 at 14:42 |

That is awesome. Something in me wants to add a comma in there, though...
Nice Volvo, bitch!
I want a Volvo, bitch!
Your soul was just eaten by a Volvo, bitch!

One? Nope. Can't do it. My entry is a list. And then some tuner modified honorable mentions.
1. a 1971 1800E (stronger engine, 4 wheel disc brakes)
2. a 1981 262C, black.
3. early 80's 242 GTX (think 242 GT, but better. How much better? it had an engine that put out 228 HP).
4. 2006 V70R.
5. A '69 or '70 220 (Amazon Wagon).
Honorable Mentions:
Vox Amazon Wagon (pure sex)
Vox P1800 concept (purer sex)
Zolland 1800ZES concept (wow)

This is after all, Jalopnik. With an upgraded suspension and a five-speed couple with the red-block, I hear they're pretty awesome.
![]() 09/25/2013 at 16:37 |

Have you seen the articles on this car? Apparently there's a Chevy V8 in there.
![]() 09/25/2013 at 16:38 |

These were reliable? I just thought the million-mile P1800 had it super regular maintained.

I'll choose this beauty.

Oh yes.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 01:45 |

They make an R-design, which comes with a slightly different exterior and interior. No R-engines sadly, but you don't really need more than a D5/T6 in this.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 09:04 |

Three million miles by now. And yes, but regular maintenance is important anyway.
![]() 09/26/2013 at 12:29 |

Unless he's done a swap lately that car has a 2.8 litre straight six under the bonnet.

A Volvo 340 GL... Oh wait I already have one :D (Sorry for the bad picture)
![]() 09/26/2013 at 14:45 |

I own it!
1993 940 turbo wagon. 5-speed swap, coilovers, blah blah blah. Bright red & still invisible to police. This is the turbo brick perfected in my mind, and being brick red is just icing on the cake.
Currently about to start assembling a turbo 16v motor this winter for next spring.
