Kinja'd!!!

My friend just smoked the tail lights on his Civic (not pictured), so it made me wonder what Oppo thought.

I think they look fine, if you're into that kind of thing, but I don't think you should mod your safety equipment unless you're making it safer.

Illegal, makes it hard to see tail lights vs. brake lights, often looks like it was applied by a 3yo retard with a lazy eye, but damn it looks cool on dark colored vehicles.

Good idea aesthetically in theory. But I have yet to see one that I thought was an improvement over stock.

Kinja'd!!!

This is how to properly smoke tail lights.

As for aftermarket smoke, it's rare to see something that looks as good or better.

The ones on that truck are way too dark, but light smoked tails are cool.

I don't like them for exactly these reasons:

Illegal, makes it hard to see tail lights vs. brake lights

On a show vehicle, I'm fine with it.

Show car, fine.

Street driven car, keep it normal! It just adds to the chance that some a-hole behind you is going to rear end you because they weren't paying attention. At this time of year going easterly or westerly and having the setting sun on the back of your car, you really can't see the brake lights come on. Add to that, the turn signals and such and it is an annoying thing.

I prefer clean polished tail lights on most cars, and the new LED systems cars have are also amazing. They don't work too great in some of the older housings, but the newer cars just pop.

Those are nicely done, but also the Mustang light elements are amazingly bright. That helps overcome the tint a whole lot.

Looks weird. Like somebody else said, maybe if it wasn't nearly as dark. Tiny Toy Viper also has a good example of what would look good.

If they somehow increased the brightness of the bulbs so they remained the same visibility of them braking I'd be fine with it.

They never do that.

I hate smoked taillights.

Here is a before and after on my CL. Shitty pics but what I had quick access to. The tint isn't as dark as it looks in the pic. In person, people usually don't notice the tint, they just think the lights are a dark red. Exactly what I wanted. Not exactly legal in Ca but they are clear and bright enough that they don't cause a hazard.

I think there is a difference between smoked and blacked out. What does it look like with the lights on? And just for consistency, are you considering the the 3rd brake light as well?

Aftermarket Altezza tailights and smoked tailights are never an improvement.

Cleaner looking red tailights, however, are much better.

I am considering the 3rd light, but I don't think everybody will.
