Went mountain biking this weekend, found these weird rock circles. I guess aliens resort to rocks when there are no crops around to make circles in?

"Stupid bike lane. Keeps taking me in circles."

It's probably part of a cult.
You may call your bike Christine from now on, she may kill you and fix herself. But don't worry. She won't catch you if you run uphill.

I'm sticking with my alien theory.
...although I suppose the aliens could also be Robert Smithson fans.

It must be heat. There's a hot spring I go to several times a year with vertical railroad ties to mark the path. People have pounded hundreds, maybe thousands, of nails to make 3D shapes of things like lizards and other stuff.

I'm guessing drugs are involved.

I really hope its not one of those energy vortex zones that are big in Sedona. Probably is.

It has a very earthy taste to it.

Hopi Maze?

its reasonable to assume they are, its also reasonable to assume Robert Smithson was an alien. Robert Smithson...fake name for sure.

Ha. Good point! It does look pretty similar. I should ask my Hopi friends if they are trying to expand their reservation into southern Arizona through adverse possession...
...kinda seems like something they should be telling their lawyer about BEFORE the set out to do it. I could probably give them a few helpful tips.

Are you anywhere near Sedona? I visited there once, and the wacko concentration was very high. There were a lot of them, too.

I don't know, but I'm taking no chances.

Sedona is about three hours north. There are still plenty of wackos around here, but not *quite* as many as Sedona has...

You mention crops, I drove across southern AZ this summer on our way to San Diego. I was surprised to see huge fields of corn in what is otherwise a desert. Year-round corn production? Where do they get the water from?

Yeah, it makes no sense at all. There is actually a huge amount of cotton production too. For the agriculture between Tucson and Phoenix, I think most of the water either comes from the Salt River, or is piped in from the Colorado River. There is also a lot of agriculture in the Wilcox area (east of Tucson) but I don't know where that water comes from (Gila River? San Pedro? Ground water?).

This was down along I-8 between Casa Grande and Yuma. Also, gigantic cow pastures, with thousands of cows out there in the heat. Just not what I expected to see in the desert.

That's a labyrinth . It's some sort of spiritual hippie mumbo-jumbo. Walking the path supposedly brings clarity and enlightenment or something.

That was my first thought.
