Aerosani cars are prop driven sleds on skis built to deliver mail, provide medical needs, emergencey response, comunications, border patrol, etc. All use was in Northern Russia. This began in very early 1900s This car above is called a 'Aerosani Sever-2'. This Pobieda Poby sledge car was designed in the Kamov helicopter design bureau bazed off of the GAZ m-20 sedan. I'm guessing, 1959 and a small radial. Perhaps its a M-14 of probably 250+ hp. (LOTS MORE!)

I saw a picture of it and thought it was a one-off russian special that they are famous for building and trying out. Oh wow I found alot more. Following information came from !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! that refers to them as 'prop sleighs'.

This was 1912. A Mr. Sikorsky is driving it, with possibly up to 25hp motorcycle engines. It was such a crazy novel idea, that it got some publication.

Popular Science magazine, 1912. Awesome. This is just over the border from Popular Steampunk. These sleds were built and used for all sorts of utility. They even opened a regular aerosled delivery route.

This was an ANT-IV that did an 85km mail route in 2.5 hours. It was 12 hours on horseback previously. Then the military applications were experimented with.

And the NKL-26 armored military sled was born around WW2. There looks to be all sorts of fun that people could have with these things. It would appear that their use would be limited once modern snow mobiles were invented and perfected.
