I'm not one of those guys who foams at the mouth for the A-10, though I do love it. But who in their right mind thinks we have anything comparable in the puppies to replace it? We still use them, and as I understand it, we use them fairly regularly. Upgrade the avionics and stop this nonsense.

You can watch the whole video, its good. But this says it all. Just in case it doesn't start at the time I specified (kinja sucks) 4:57.

somehow I went from Aston one-77 stalls to air craft stalls to helicopter stalls to S&W 500 full auto to videos of the A-10's glorious cannon. . . It all ends with the A-10. . .

That's the issue. It's not that we like the nostalgia, it's that the JSF is not in any way suited for the close air support role and no plane is currently set to replace it.
I don't blame them for wanting to reduce single-role aircraft, but it only makes sense if there's a multi-role craft that can take over. A JSF can be a decent replacement for the F117 for instance, but it's no close air support replacement.
