Don't worry, I wasn't arrested (yet). I had to get a new passport and a kind police officer I met at the post office gave me a ride back home.
Here's my issue. I'm 6'1", so not abnormal by any means. I couldn't sit back in the rear seat without hitting my head on the slanted roof. There was no comfortable way for me to sit. The seats were standard, not the plastic ones found in the patrol models. Why does the interior feel much more cramped that it needs to be? The Taurus is a huge car. It's a trend I'm seeing more and more in large and mid-sized sedans—I have the same issue with new Buicks.

For the PI versions, I don't think they give a damn if the perp hits his head against the roof.
And the civilian ones, I'm 6'2'' and I fit just fine in the back? I'm not the smallest person either.

I've never been in a normal Taurus. Maybe there is extra material under the headliner?

Hmm, maybe the PI versions have additional padding in places.
I was only on the front of a PI and that felt like business as usual in terms of the space I had to work with.

I've been in the back of an 09 and 11 MKS with no head issues, and I'm 6ft 5in

6'1" how? I'm 5'10" and I don't fit in the vast majority of back seats at all because most of my height is in my torso.
I had to drive a friend's civic once. Had to open the sunroof.
