Right near me. I'd love to know mileage and transmission (along with other info), but what can you expect from craigslist?

Do VW VINs reveal the switchgear?

No idea. I'm totally new to the whole VW scene, but I'm finding I have a particular weakness for any early '90s Mk2 VW. I don't even know if this thing has airbags or not, hopefully it does.

nice looking car, 7 grand seems a bit steep, but I dont know mileage either. It isnt an auto I know for a fact if it is a GTI. No airbags either on mk2

Well that answers the airbag question which in turn means I'm not getting it...Assuming it is real, it's all there, and it's got decent mileage (who knows, it's possible) it'll probably end up being a nice car for someone.
So to confirm then, VW started using airbags in their Mk3 cars? I'm new to the older VWs, and have been digging a bit deeper because of the mk2 Jettas...I loved how they look, but I need an airbag in my car, (whatever it may be).

Fuckin' majestic.

yeah the Mk3 was the first. And those cars for the most part are utter junk. I had a 98 GLX Jetta vr6 with a stick and 40K miles on it. When it rained the windows and sunroof would open and not go back up till it dried out. Perfect. Fun in sunny weather though :)
Just curious, why so keen on airbags? Even if that thing did have them I highly doubt they would have had the 10 year inspection and service, or work at all. M-B had em back in the 70's.

rallye golf or go home.

even with low mileage, time takes it's toll on VW's, especially interiors, rubber, seals, etc..
with an east coast car of this age, I'd also be inspecting the hell out of the suspension and underbody.
that TT exhaust is great, I had the DP/cat back combo on my 16V Scirocco and LOVED it.
also, $7000 is dangerously close to CP.

hell I have a TT stainless exhaust on my Fox wagon. Awesome stuff

Okay, good pedigree, and a paint job that indicates garage keeping. Bit up there on the price. The question here is..
Polished or Dirty?
For instance, you can come visit the Smoky Mountains, visit Dollywood, and save $5500 to spend on renewing everything to your liking.
115K, about time to renew anything the owner hasn't.

ha, I had one on my fox too, like 24+ HP bump, most I've ever gotten out of an exhaust. the stocker is like a coffee stirrer.

getting rid of the stock exhaust donut to the cat is the first awesome step. They made that donut small on purpose so it didnt have the power of the more expensive golf and jetta. The rest of that system helps too. Awesome

Meh. I only parked my mk2 for semi permanent hibernation this summer because I wanted something more comfortable and frugal. The car is still perfectly reliable and in great technical condition, despite not being garaged since 2001, having 300k (km) on the odometer and being equipped with a weezy 54 hp engine. The interior is flawless, except for slightly tired cushions on the drivers seat (300k...) and the hinges of the shelve broke off.
