I have a younger brother who has a screen saver that alternates between procedurally generated BSODs (random driver names, BSOD errors), the windows start-up screen, and one or two other things.

Well I've seen plenty of blue screens in my day .... and know a lot of people with 4 year or older MacBooks, Including myself.

Age has almost nothing to do with bluescreens. BSODs are usually caused by drivers or hardware issues. Also, I wish people would stop suggesting Macs instead of windows for crap like this. Face it, there are things that Macs simply can't do, so suggesting one is dumb.

Oh man, the crappy Dells in the University computer rooms do this all the time whenever you put anywhere near too much pressure on them... Which is very easy to do since I'm working with UDK (if you do that while simultaneously watching a tutorial on Youtube you're gonna have a bad time ).

That said, Game Development is awesome.

Eh, I was screwing around in a virtual machine trying to get the game I bought in Japan to work. I performed a hard reset and all was well.

I think gv3.sys is intel related. Start killing any intel related processes. When do you get the error?

PS: Please burn all macs.

I like my solution better. Yes, it is a fully functional version of OS X (virtual machine).

I bet that was a considerable amount cheaper .... does that have all the track pad features though? Just curious.

Err ouch .... How am I the only Mac fan in this thread? The only way to be 100% sure you won't see a blue screen like that is a different OS so how is that dumb?

You can keep it ... might get upset every time you have wait 5 minutes for a computer to start up, get a blue screen, or the next time windows gives you a new OS thats even shittier.

Or just replace the computer with a rock and you won't get bluescreens. But really, I work with test stands all day that run National instruments instrumentation software and hardware, and are connected to PLCs and are hugely complicated. Sometimes they bluescreen if the drivers mess up. If someone told me I should change them to a macs, I might slap them in the face just for saying that. The point is, macs are not the be all end all windows replacement. Windows is actually very good at what it does and can do things other OSs can't. It bluescreens when you install shitty drivers. Also, I don't hate macs, I just hate it when people say "oh BSOD? that's because windows sucks, you should switch to a mac." Sorry for the rant. Macs are pretty cool though.

macs are just the worst, cant stand them. Over priced, ass OS, repair and supply chain are a mess. Haven't had a BSOD since I was running Windows 95. My machine does take a while to boot, my RAID array and 3 way SLI has to be checked, built it myself. You? Only fanboys install every new OS, stick with the best until something better comes along. Hint: Windows 7.

How fucking awesome is it that you can install a shit ass modem from Singapore, made it someones basement and it works. Or a sound card from Eastern Europe with drivers on a floppy and it just works. Just awesome.

Dude, working with NI cards is noooo joke. Big ups to you man. I had to work with NI cards and software with Win95, I think it took a few years off my life. I'm not going to ask where you work, but what equipment/devices are your machines talking to?

My Lenovo W530 was about $1,000 cheaper than the comparable MacBook Pro. The only thing the Pro has over mine is an additional 8 gb of ram (which can be easily fixed). The copy of OS X was $20. The Apple specific track pad features do not work, but being a Windows person, it doesn't really bother me. I'm using 10.6, which doesn't fully support the newer hardware of the W530. A newer version of OS X would almost certainly work better and support the newest hardware. A newer version of OS X would probably support the track pad features. This setup would probably work better, too, if it was installed as a dual boot, and not run in VirtualBox under Windows 7. For me, this was an exercise in fun with no real practical purpose.

The NI devices are mostly just doing analog inputs from transducers, some digital inputs, and some digital outputs to PLCs. The inputs are used in custom software written a long time ago by someone who doesn't work here anymore. The NI stuff actually seems to be one of the smaller sources of headaches on these machines.

Off topic slightly I think the main problem with most PC's I've used is, they are all made to a price point and suck because of it. My friend is in the IT field and his computers rock and I know there is no comparable Mac. I'm not a fan boy but I like walking into a computer lab and knowing what a computer is going to act like, with PC's that is a guessing game more times than not.

While I do like my macbook & I know that me and all my friends studying design use the shit out of them. I also know that PC's have the potential to kickass. My best friend is in the IT field and makes his own PC's and they rock. There is no comparable mac, tower or not. I can appreciate both sides.

Also your statement implies I left my coffee shop accessory.
