The other day I splurged on my first pair of real driving shoes to celebrate the pending purchase of my new car. I did my research and bought these Drift Cat 5's:

Kinja'd!!!

I stink'n love 'em! They are Super comfy and have amazing pedal feel. I wore them on my second test drive of our future car and got my heel-n-toe on, and the rustiness came off way quicker than expected. She asked what I meant by Heel-n-toe, so I explained it to her and showed her. We both love the car, even though it's nothing like what we thought we were looking for: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

So to celebrate, she secretly bought me two shirts to show her support of the car and my love of cars. Here's one of them:

This is one of my favorite blipshift shirts (matches the shoes too!), and I honestly have no idea how she knew that or found it. But I can't tell you guys about the second shirt because it will ruin the surprise concerning which car we are buying. Stay tuned. It may be a couple weeks before it all goes down (fyi).

Single guys: marry your best friend. Plain and simple

Man.. Im so pissed. I have been looking for some boss driving shoes and it looks as if I am SOL. I wear a size 15wide or 16 and unless i want actual racing shoes Im out of luck. all the nice low profile, comfy driving sneakers dont go past 14. THIS IS SIZEIST I SAY!!

Mine neither. But she puts up with it, bless her heart. When we approached the car she tried as hard as she could to poke holes in it. But after 10 minutes of driving it, I looked over at her, and knew she "got it". Admittedly, I never understood the draw to this particular car until I drove it the first time, when she wasn't there.

My word! I'd love to see how you pull off heel-n-toe! You might look into the racing loafers. I have some Clarks that I enjoy using on the drive to church/sunday drives. But I wear just a size 9...

Yeah it seems like loafers are the way to go but they are ugly lol. i want somehting stylish and cool man! Im only 34! As for heel toe, its actually not easy and exactly why I want some drivers. I may just go with some skate shoes and try to find the lowest profile ones I can. Shit sucks cuz Pumas look sooooo good

Yeah, mine is starting to get a bit tired of my project car build. It would seem "normal" people expect their cars to be back up and running in less than a year... pshhh.

oh well I'm almost 23 and I wear those... hmmm maybe I should self-evaluate for a moment.... Anyway, I'd go with some vans, or Chuck Taylor Converses then. They have all the pedal feel of a Puma, just without the soul support. But just about any skate or indoor soccer shoe would be as good if you're not too picky (which it sounds like you can't be)

Yeah dude. What's up with that. Only took me 10 months!

They get less tired of your car if you don't DD their car...

Yeah, that was the logic I used to justify buying my Ninja... now she's mad I'm riding a Ninja 1000 year round. Something about it not being safe in rain/snow/ice... pshhhh. All I hear is "I challenge you to...".

Nah if your wearing driving loafers your prolly pretty stylish (and possibly hipster) Lol. But i do appreciate the input as I was literally looking last night. ended up looking at vans and dc as i dont like chucks.

Hahaha no hipsters here... just like to look sharp on sunday. I'd go with DC's. The last pair I had (YEARS AGO) offered much more support and were a lot more cushy in the side-walls and ankles

My fiancé also doesn't care about cars, but knows how important they are to me. I bolster my addiction by working in the auto industry. So it's cars cars cars all day, and by the time I get home it's out of my system. I work as a dealership manager now, but before I worked as a vendor to fleet companies and 2nd/3rd tier manufacturers. One thing that might surprise a lot of Opponauts is that many people who work for the manufacturer and tertiary industries aren't really into cars. A good number are, but they are the exception, not the rule. Conversely, where I work there are a lot of enthusiasts. Part of that is the ethos of my company, we seek to hire enthusiasts, because they are the best ambassadors for the industry.

Even with that, she still tolerates my unending need to have conversations with people about cars that catch my interest, my multiple magazine subscriptions ( call me a sucker for nostalgia, but the glossies have something a tablet just can't capture ) which I don't throw away when I'm done reading, and my late night CL/eBay car shopping on the tablet in bed. But there is one thing where she drew the line: she hates my favorite shoes.

Kinja'd!!!

I have a pair of Speedwell Boost Mids (Red, of course) which I bought 10 years ago in college that I will never part with. They get worn only on the sunniest of weekends, when I can take a car out and put it through it's paces, or at rack events, so maybe 3x a year. I will never part with them. They reside in a box at the far corner of the top shelf in my closet (where I know she can't reach them, even with a chair). We have an agreement now. I will never wear them on dates or any time I'm out in public when driving is not the only reason I'm out, and in return she'll never hassle me to give them up.

Questions-

1) What car did you end up with? Am I missing that somewhere?

2) Do you only wear them when driving, or all the time?

Check out these Cole Haan drivers. Still loafer style, but with rounded heels and thin soles for better pedal feel and control. As a Nike subbrand, they also have the usual AIR cushion insoles. Up to size 16 and Wide widths, as well.

I'm far safer on my bike than I am in my cars on average. Something about a cage around me makes me feel like I should test my luck a lot more.

Besides, to get a car that performs like a bike (even my sport touring bike) would cost a fortune. Even my bike is about 0.28 HP per lb... so a 3000 lb car would have to have 840 HP. For each of those horse powers I just here a "cha ching" for dollars flying out of my pocket. This lets me get my fix of power for reasonably cheap and good mileage... that way I don't over build my cars ;)

I know... I definitely get the reasons for owning one. Just about every day, I wish I could use less gas and have more fun at the same time. Which is what a bike is all about.

Just can't trust anyone not to kill me.

I could have written the whole first paragraph of your post. Except I haven't had an auto position since High School. But our relationship and my daily dose of cars sounds very similar. Anyway, those shoes are pretty sweet. If I got some vibrant high-top track shoes, they would probably reieve the same treatment.

1) Well I haven't take delivery, so I don't want to commit to saying I "ended up" with the car in question. But just know I am super excited about it, and am pretty sure it would be Jalop-approved. So no, you haven't missed it. I'm just keeping all of you in the dark... for now

2) I wear them as shoes for attending class just as often as my nike free's. I actually enjoy wearing them casually more than Free's because running shoes, in my experience, start to actually hurt feet as they loose support from not being run in. So I wear a pair for a year, then start using them as work-out and running shoes. But the Drift Cats are pretty great for casually wearing them after about four days in them. Supposedly I have the right shape feet for them too. I've heard just as many people complain as I have give praise for them as casual shoes.

Awesome, well I'm excited for you! Two of my buddies just landed jobs and bought some quite jalop cars (GTO and a rsx type S) and I just love to see people getting a car they really like.

As far as the shoes, I'm in the market for a new pair and want the driving and casual/walking capabilities. Thanks for the info, I'll keep my eye out at the store to try a pair at least.

Yeah, we've been able to operate with just one car for the past 2.5 months (urban setting). But come October, she will need to travel further for work so I'll need a second car to do my travels. I couldn't be happier to get out of a Volvo SUV and into something MUCH more fun.

No problem. One of my co-workers in high school had a type s. Fun car. It gets the driving experience so right, especially for a FWD. My Dad and I shared an '06 GTO for years. They have become more "GT" cars than their other muscle car rivals, but I loved the stealthness of it. The ONLY people who asked about it were car-enthusiasts; and that's the way we liked it.

Kinja'd!!! Kailand09 > revrseat70

Yup, honestly the type S is an absolutely wonderful drivers car, and the amount of power is juuust right. Since it isn't intended as a track day car and a DD, it's just awesome.

The GTO is definitely more GT car, but I prefer that myself. My buddy also prefers the stealthiness, most people think it's just some econobox. The only thing is he has an aftermarket exhaust that makes it gurgle real purdy.
