An excerpt from '4WDing with Subaru", an Subaru Australia VHS and brochure on how to drive your Subaru in Australia properly. Get out a mirror and the lessons could be applied elsewhere in the world.

You can watch the full dealer-vhs version !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

This is official Subaru Australia media.. If your Brumby gets washed down the stream, they blame the stream, not the driver.

The unique characteristics of the 80's Subaru 4wd system are explained as well. If you just got one, you need to review that turning section. Or have the seller give you a rundown of the technique. This ain't no AWD.
They have clutches or something to keep newer Subarus from locking up on dry pavement.

Oh, and he drives into a stream. Twice.

so, Did he hydrolock the first one? They never really say if adding gas worked, then they switch cars.

It sounded a little funky, but it did start. Most of the stuff is out of the way in the engine compartment. It must have been running rough, though. Brave to continue on and honest enough to not reshoot the whole thing with the red one.

Ah, the squarebaru. Yeah, mine are technically 'retro', since I learned to drive one one when they were new. Had to have the seller re-teach me the 4wd trick of not locking up in turns.

*I have a cheap beater hatchback despite the seller saying it was 'stuck in 4wd and had to drive around like that'. I knew that to be impossible unless they unhooked the shaft.

It was, indeed, just the indicator light switch.

I know on some the 4wd select was vacuum assisted, or possibly actuated, either way it was frequently and easy fox of finding and fixing a vacuum leak

Our '85 was red, too. And darn good results for a first-model-year build. I don't think there was any problem not caused by external physics. I spun the thing once and got it proper stuck.

Yeah, the pushbutton switch, on the side of autos, in the middle of manuals. These are pure mechanical, and I've jammed up a few times.

Just enjoy having such a odd bit of engineering. If only they had studied metallurgy a bit more.

Then again, it was chemical warfare. "Have you got any unsalted roads?"
