Maybe it's a good thig that Biased Waffles has gone into hiding, because Volvo is going to drop the 5 and 8-cyl engines, to fully focus on turbocharged 4-pots. Bye bye, 5 cylinder turbos, it was fun while it lasted!

Word on the street is that this is still a generation away, since the i5/i6 has already been confirmed for the V60 wagon.

They're going to drop a 4-cyl into the S80 and XC90? Really?

Actually, I could see the S80 being dropped entirely (great car, but low sales), but the XC90 just got redesigned, so you know it's not going anywhere.

Yeah, there's still some time left for him to start hording cars with odd numbers of cylinders.

This does not make sense, if we consider Volvo's gonna go upmarket.

This is the way of the world, Merc and BMW do the same thing, they just have many more engines vertically, so it'll take longer. But the x 28i is a 4pot already, as is the merc 250, and the M3 and M5 lost 2 cylinders each... should i go on, or are you crying allread?

There is precedence, A8 can be had with a 2.0T powering the front.

Upmarket? Where do they want to go? They are a already a premium brand.

Quite far from it if you ask me - no full-size sedan, no coupés, no high performance versions...There's still plenty of room for them.

Wut? What about the S80 and their R cars? Also look at their pricing, it's not like they are competing with Kia and Chevy.

The S80 is an E-class rival, in order to be taken seriously as a luxury carmaker they need an S-class rival (the mistake with Infiniti too, although Infiniti does have one in the US market). Their R cars have been phased out and replaced with T6 cars. The S60 T6 can barely match the E90 335i. They need to produce the Polestar models in order to have anything able to match M, AMG, RS, R, V or F.
