Basically it feels like I'm playing Need For Speed: The Run.

It feels more like Midnight Club LA and I for one don't mind the change.

The driving physics have improved but not at all to the extent that we were led to believe.

You probably also noticed the straight map port of certain sections. I thought that was somewhat cool.

I hated them at first, but after playing for 10ish hours yesterday, (don't judge) I got more and more used to driving. Its not too bad, in my opinion.

That is the dumbest petition I have ever heard of.

I just wish i could get a lot more loose on those wide LA city streets.

Yeah, GTA IV's driving model was awful. Handbrake turns just spun you. There was way too much roll. And it felt like every car was on worn out bias-ply tires.

If I had jumped into it from Forza, I might be perturbed As it is, I've only been playing State of Decay for the past few months, and the driving physics in that are WHORE-IBLE.

GTA V drives just fine, to me. it gets a little hinky at times, but hey, its GTA. Not a simulator. Just use Franklin and his awesome fucking ability to get you through those tight turns.

People are dumb.

IV's driving physics were not awful but they were certainly not GTA-friendly.

"Oh the cops blocked that street, I'm going to do a 90º turn now"... yes, that's going to take some time. It was good, a little on the boaty-side but it was just to un-responsive (or to "real") for an arcade game were you are supposed to have FUN running from the cops. The old III, VC, SA engine was much better at fun, even though it was quite spartan compared to IV's.

I haven't played V, but from the vids I can tell the cars handle a little better and seem to be generally better planted on the road.

I spent an hour drifting about in whatever the GTA Camaro/Nissan Z31 thing is.

the physics noticeably get better as you level your driving skill up.

Awww crap. I literally just got back to my moms house after buying it. I'm here for a few more days before I head home. Am I about to be disappointed?

I thought gta4 had great physics, it was one of the things I liked about it, as opposed to something like sleeping dogs. I can deal with arcadey but complex. I can't deal with simple and easy.

I prefer GTAIV handing, but I can see why they changed it. The driving is now more accessible, and it's easier to go fast, but it feels generic and less believable. I preferred the loosey-goosey handling in IV. It felt like I imagined it would feel to try to make a getaway in an ordinary, run-of-the-mill car.

Horribly worded is more like it. The way GTA works is the car's handling characteristics are all stored in a file called "handling.cfg". Now it should be pretty simple to make a second one that would only be accessible outside of missions such as online multiplayer.

Nah, I meant what I said. It's dumb because it is unnecessary. This is the way the developers meant for the cars to handle, get used to it, deal with it.

I guess I'll just have to wait and try it out. That's disappointing though, a big part of gta for me has always been that they had amazingly well done car physics for a game not exclusively about driving.
