A Baja Bug TDI, a Rotary Miata, an El Camino drift car or BMW E39 M5 Wagon?
![]() 09/18/2013 at 17:16 |

E) All of the above

M5 Wagon
Edit: Why, you ask? Because it's the one I want most. Though a rotary miata would be quite useful to me.

TDI Baja Bug? Are you outside of your god-damned mind?

A rotary diesel equipped El Camiata with a removable wagon hardtop.

I want to say rotary MX-5, but it's a close contest between that and the E39 M5 Touring (naturally assuming both are manual)...
Oh wait! Miata is always the answer on Jalopnik. That was easier than I thought.

A man can dream.

Dreaming of no steering feel if you want a cast-iron lump bolted onto the back.

On top of a key-car chassis, oh and btw that rotary is a twin-charged engine...

Turbo Diesel Wankel Miata Wagon, with a trailer hitch.

Manual of course.

M5 E39 camino

Flaw in my dream duly noted.

I would say they look equall to me, though i would never-ever TDI a Bug, nor would i rotary an MX-5.
One note though, the bmw is way more expensive to get and upkeep than the othes, and it's closer to factory too. To cure both of that let's say it's running a twin-turbo SBC.

M5 drift wagon...

Whoa...

An SBC M5 Touring is something I can get behind.

The most Jalop answer is "All of them, but only one runs right now".

Your wish is my command!

Yes. A M112 fed by an EFR 7064 feeding an angry Wankel with a bridge port.

Which one runs you ask? The rotary miata of course. Yeah, i don't get, how, either.

:o ditch the silly black rims and it would be pretty dope

All are great choices. This would make a great DDTrackBurn

El Camino = Approx. 261 Jalop Points
Rotary Miata = 129 Jalop Points
TDI Baja Bug = Approx. 135 Jalop Points, hard to calculate
BMW E39 M5 Wagon = 115 Jalop Points
Calculate for yourself http://jalopnik.com/346367/how-jal…

Subaru Boxer Diesel. Probably reroute a couple of things but it should, in theory, work. Just pick up one of those 'industrial power source' motors and install it in your mobile industry.

Agreed, I much prefer the stock M5 wheels to these.

The Camino is above Bitchin' Camino, lol.

I counted my 97 HP 1986 Peugeot 505 and its 155 points (longitudinal engine, manual, RWD, French, 2 ashtrays), which gets it an 151-200 points Fantasy Garage category.
I wouldn't say so myself, but hey.

My 55 Buick was calculated at 250:
V8: 15pts
1 carburetor: 10 pts
2 doors: 25
Body on Frame: 10
RWD: 25
Front Engine: 0
Dynaflow (stator blade) transmission not on the list but I counted it as 15 because of rarity and the fact that it came from a tank destroyer
USA!: 5 pts
236 HP: 5 pts
Age 58 yrs: 50 pts
6 ashtrays: 90 pts

The TDI beetle still needs it's wiring finished, the Camino drift car has it's engine block in the bed waiting for a stroker crank, and the BMW is in the shop for maintenance.

Fun fact: The winner of Spec Miata was given a rotary powered Miata. The losers were given two.

That is exactly the order I had them in in my mind. Good to know I still have a warped sense of auto-decency.

Ooopsie, i missed where it says +10 for Carbs, and i got just the one on top of that lump, so that'l make it 165 points.
Interestingly, that's way more than my AW11 MR2 gets (116), but even i, who loves both, wouldn't dare suggest that's less desirable, than the pug. If anything, it's more desirable. So there are some flaws to this points table..... Like the fact, that a laterally mounted midship engine gets 0 points (-10 for lateral, +10 for midship), while the longitudinal front engine gets 25. Why is this flawed you say? Well you know what has a lateral midship engine? The Lamborghini Miura. And a lot of V8 Ferraris. And the NSX and the MR2. Would anyone really suggest, that these should get 0 points for their engine placement, while a lowly, simple sedan gets 25?

Y'all are making this too hard, the obvious answer is a diesel rotary engined Miata wagon, with extra ground clearance and mud tires.
