So yesterday I put in a long day, up at 6:00 for work, after lunch drove 3.5 hours for a couple hour meeting and then drove home and got in around 11:30. In the process I spent about 7 hours in my truck. I didn't think to reset the odometer before leaving home, so I don't have totals for the whole trip. But I did fill up when leaving the meeting and again today at lunch time. According to the truck I used 9.1 gallons of fuel to travel 197.6 miles between fill ups while getting 21.5 mpg. According to my Gas Cubby app I used 9.471 gallons of fuel to travel 198 miles for 20.9 mpg. Pretty close agreement between the two, and idling the truck for a few minutes to defog the windshield screws up the truck computer, so that accounts for a good bit of the discrepancy. Either way, that is pretty good mileage for a crew cab truck with the cruise set at 65 and a few passes on two lane roads. If this post has ADD its because I don't function well on only 5 hours of sleep.
I've been meaning to post a towing update one of these days. I'm too lazy right now, but maybe later this week I will. The short version of the towing update is that the truck does a real good job towing a 7,000 pound camper trailer.

From what I hear, the ecoboost gets good off boost highway mileage, and has great towing power, but the mileage goes to pot (as bad or worse than the v8) 21.5 is pretty great, but the new silverado is supposed to do 22 on the highway in 4wd crew cab trim. It will be interesting to see how they really stack up. Of course, then there is the Ecodiesel ram, which is supposed to get high 20's low 30's highway with the same torque as the ecoboost, and its likely to get only low 20's while towing on the freeway. its getting interesting. Regardless, The ecoboost is a good truck, but methinks its more boost than eco.

I for one will vouch for the EcoBoost, but everyone knows that already. One of these days I'll start driving it like I care about gas mileage and see how it does, haha.

I'm real tired, so this might come off as dickish but I don't mean it to.
The argument that EB gives good no load mileage but it sucks when towing/loaded/hauling is total bullshit. I don't care what engine you are using, the mileage goes to shit when you start towing any significant weight. I've got an '02 GMC, and when you tow a heavy trailer the mileage is for shit. The beauty of the EB is that when you are unloaded and don't need the power mileage goes up significantly more than a NA V8. When you are hauling weight and need power you have it. Doesn't matter what the engine is, it takes X amount of energy to move a 7,000 pound trailer.

unless its a diesel, then you get less load mileage drop compared to a gas engine. from 22 to 12 gas from 25 to 18 diesel or thereabouts.

Probably because of the lower pumping losses with a diesel. Even when loaded a gas engine will spend most of its time with the throttle plate mostly closed which kills efficiency.
