Unleash nerd rage. Who would have thought this question would even be debateable after season 1 of Top Gear USA?
I hate that Top Gear USA has cut out so many of the segments that makes Top Gear what it is, but Tanner, Rut, and Adam are genuinely funny. Based on the most recent season of Top Gear UK I find myself far more interested in the next episode of Top Gear USA vs the next episode of Top Gear UK. About the only thing interesting about the last UK season were the Star interviews. Mark Webber interview was epic.
And on that bombshell it is time to debate.

It's an important question because I must like one and hate the other!

That seems to be the general feeling these days, but the question says like better which implies you do like them both because you're a Jalop.

I lean more toward TG USA because I think Tanner Foust is cute.

ooo! tough one.
TGUS is just in its infancy, after a messy first season they really pared it down to waht we like, challenges, road trips, cheap cars!
TGUK is the epic classic, the trio's work together is unreplicatable.
TGAUS... umm nevermind lets move on.
Probably TGUK gets my vote, but I'm more than happy to watch TGUS as TGUK has such brief seasons

I really like that the U.S. version is like a top gear challenge every episode, that was always my favorite part of the U.K. series. I think if TGUS would more often throw us some supercar porn and bring back the test track, they would have my vote.

Clarkson isn't cute..........at all. Him owning a Ford GT for a short time is a long story.

See, I like both but for different reasons. TG USA is more for the crazy antics and fun shit they do. I love it. It's what I'd love to do. TG UK is more for the education about the car. I love that. I get to learn. So both for me!

I like them both. I prefer neither.
I find myself watching TGUK more because it's easier to find (regular reruns on BBCAmerica, streams on the internet, etc). If I come across TGUS on tv, I watch it.
The format of each are different and can only be compared if you want to prove that "TGUS isn't like TGUK, therefore it sucks". The presenters in each are different and can only be compared to prove "Foust/Ferrara/Rut aren't Clarkson/Hammond/May, therefore they suck". The cars and episodes are normally american centric and focused more on challenges. Which, challenge/adventure based shows are something that TGUK fans commonly want more of.
So overall, while they share a name and a premise, the shows are different enough to allow for fandom of both.
Besides, Rutledge Wood is easily the most Jalop of the six presenters.

I've been watching Top Gear UK for close on 20 years now so I'm in too deep to ever turn back.

I like them both. I still prefer UK TG, but TG america helps fill the void between seasons. Adam still gets on my nerves, a lot of his cheesy lines get annoying half way through the episode.
Ex: Last nights episode, he says something like "So long Rally boy" or "Take that racer boy" every time they cut to another presenter during the race. He is too over the top for me. That being said, I really like Tanner and Rut, and I like the chemistry coming together between the 3.
The show is actually a lot better now that they have dumped some of the TG UK DNA, eliminated the lap times and studio segments all together. Their SIRPC segment was just painful to watch.

I prefer TGUK, but will watch TGUS. I would like it more if they didn't just copy the challenges as well. And please remove Adam Ferrara. He offends my delicate sensibilities.

Interesting question.
Top Gear USA is on an upward trajectory. The crew is building chemistry, they've chopped the fat, and the show seems to be consistently getting better.
Meanwhile, Top Gear UK has been in decline since Tiff Needell left. Clarkson keeps becoming more of a pretentious douche, and Hammond and May have the personalities of the people from work at Christmas parties that you like, but you don't want to talk to them, because if you do, they'll cling to you all night, if that makes any sense.
Both great shows, though. A lot better than 99% of the crap on TV, which is why I hate to see jalopnik hating on either show, really.

TGUSA is solid evidence what executive meddling and Hollywood politics do to foreign shows "Americanized." It produces crap.
So, my votes has to go to Top Gear Korea.
