Textron just recently publicly announced a new military aircraft that has been in the works. It sounds as though they have taken Cessna's tactics of develop the best aircraft while keeping the cost down as much as possible. I am excited to see first flight footage.

Textron Chairman and CEO Scott Donnelly said, “We began development of the Scorpion in January 2012 with the objective to design, build and fly the world’s most affordable tactical jet aircraft capable of performing lower-threat battlefield and homeland security missions.” Donnelly continued, “We relied on commercial best practices to develop a tactical jet platform with flexibility and capabilities found only in far more costly aircraft.”

I have no words. It looks awesome. Anybody find an estimated cost/unit? I know business jets are running around $30 mil. I don't know if this would be more or less.

It's just like the A-10 instead of a gun they built the plane around a huge douche .

That's pretty cool. What's with the almost straight wing though? I'd think that'd kill the top speed.

Cessna's current business jet line cost anywhere from ~$3.3 million to ~$26 million. I am guessing it will probably be somewhere in that range, especially if they are sourcing parts from the Citation lineup.

It sounds like its designed more for endurance than speed, to carry out surveillance type missions, which means a highly swept wing would be inefficient

Proposed buyers would be the air national guard, coast guard, etc. Why spend crap tons of money keeping Ferraris in the air (F-16s, F-15s, F-18s, F-35s) to do work better suited to an F-150?
At any rate, I want one :)
