Well that should be interesting. I'm hoping they can get back to making fun to drive cars with an easy to own price and still hit the sales figures they've set for themselves, but their line up has been getting pretty weak and bloated.

I mean looking at the MKV Jetta. It was a reasonably priced sedan that still had some nice engine options and a nice suspension set up. The new one just got bigger and lost a lot of its handling characteristics that made you want to buy one in the first place. The Beigekrieg seems to be ruining what attracted people to VWs in the first place. I actually think this why they are having trouble reaching their sales goals.

It's about goddamn time they got rid of that 2.5 L monstrosity and the pathetic 115hp it generates. Seriously, 115hp out of 5 cylinders and all of those litres? What is this, 1980?

My scientific estimate is that the 138hp 1.4 L turbo four mentioned in the article will be 1 billion times more interesting to drive.

I think you are thinking of the NA 2.0 with 115hp the 2.5 puts out about 170....even still both are outdated mills that need to go.

They haven't already? In Europe compact VWs and larger are all turbocharged, with the exception of the (rare) 6 cylinders. Keep in mind that a car like the mk7 Golf is available with 8+ engine options. All with a turbo. The last 5 cylinder gasoline in a VW in (Western) Europe was available in the old mk4 Golf/Jetta, discontinued in 2005.

I've got a Mk5 Jetta 2.5. I've been thinking of throwing a turbo on there. Wish VW would've done this earlier
