Despite you're always be one of the slowest man on the track?
My neighbor has a friend, that used to be an Indonesian Touring Car racer. It's Like DTM but with Civics and Corrollas instead of Mercedes and Audi. And he said that his friend retiring from the series, simply because he always being one of the slowest man on the track during his career.
That makes me thinking, if ibwere him, would i do the same thing?
i mean..
I never do any pro racing before. But i do once participating on an Amateur Rallycross in my hometown, finishing 127 out of 169 on under 2-Litre stock class. Despite i even didn't make it to top 100, thanks to collapsed front-left suspension, i was having a very good time there. Simply because i can drive my car as fast as i can, legally.
That reason also makes me loves to visit a local dragstrip once a month with my merc, and let her run as fast as she can.
So, how about you, oppo?

I think being the tail end all the time would be very expensive and irritating. Sponsors would probably not be beating down your door and you'd probably be under constant stress to do everything on a shoestring and favors from others. If I had a more promising living else where, then I'd leave after a while. I'd just drive amaturely and enjoy driving.

Oh, yeah. Stick me in a Marussia or a Caterham and I'll be content as an F1 backmarker.
Now being the slowest guy on track in field of Miata's doesn't sound so glamorous. So it's all about what series and what level of racing one is at.

Absolutely! If you show constant improvement and consistently outdrive your equipment you will get a ride from a less terrible team (Williams) and be on your way. Otherwise, you'll have a job doing something you love. I would do it in a heartbeat!

In a heartbeat. For a chance to drive F-1 I would. Things to remember, being in the back of F-1 is still being in F-1. The slowest F-1 car is still an amazing machine that would blow just about everyone's mind. Even the slowest F-1 driver is still better than any average driver on the road and better than a good number of pro race driver.

In F1? Sure. Coming in at the back of the pack when the pack is generally agreed to be comprised of the best drivers in the world is not something to be ashamed of. I can see eventually becoming disillusioned...if you're a backmarker rookie you know you still have the potential to move up and contend for the championship. If, instead, you know that this is as far as you will ever go that thought will certainly wear on you. Much quicker, too, in a lesser series. I'd stick it out in F1 as long as the team would keep me, but if I'm struggling to not come in last every time in lower series and I know it's only because of the car I'm stuck with and will never be given a better one...yeah, I don't know how long a race driver can race if you kill his competitive spirit.

Depends... I am sure for the first few months it would be amazing. Nothing could get me down.
As long as I felt my abilities were improving and I was pushing my car to the limits each time, I think I wouldn't mind doing it forever even if I was last. I'd still get a good salary and get to do something I love.
Anyone hiring?

I'd rather be the slowest guy on the track, than the fastest one in rush hour traffic.

... and in the lower series (gp2, f3, if that's what you were referring to) the cars are the same, which would suck even more.
