What do you do if you want to get an automotive project done, and need help on it, but don't want to ask lots of places, because you want people to see it when it's finished, and not before?

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

My example in this case, (since I don't want to give away any secret projects)
is the 2001 Yamaha R1 carbs on my 1973 Toyota Celica LeMons racer. I didn't want to ask the Celica forums about it, because I figured they'd get more of a kick out of it once it was done. it's not done yet, but it runs. I've got some bigger projects in the works (and by "in the works" I mean once I have a place to live and a garage to work in and a steady job and money....

Hints on future secret projects of the Dogapult:
1. Upside down turbos
2. Public Transport
3. Giant LEGO (goes with Public Transport)
4. Public Service
5. Being Under Arrest

I hate you, SO MUCH right now.

Is that the stock 20R? How's the tuning holding up on that and I may need a "how to" after you've released this into the wilds of the Celica forums.

Nah, my car came with an 18R-C and an automatic. both were shitcanned for being, well, shit. got a W50 and found a 1981 22R with 58k on it (supposedly, although it all looked good inside) and slapped a (redone, but with stock size valves which was a HUGE mistake) 20R head on. Believe me, this thing is far from done. it does run, and we know it's reasonably quick from throwing it around in the rain a couple of years ago when we first got it working, but the manifold that holds the carbs is crap and needs to be redone, currently i have no exhaust on it, and no way to work on it. it's got a cam in it, but I have to remember what the cam is, as it was kindly donated by 22RE Performance out in California when they heard about my project. I basically used the Yamaha carbs to be different and because the original 20r carb was both broken and a vacuum line nightmare. The carbs need to be rejetted, I just threw in the absolute biggest jets I could find to make a baseline. Specifically, this 80-81 22R has domed pistons, stock. I couldn't tell you much more than that. I'd actually love your help with some stuff.

I'd be glad to help you with as much technical knowledge as I can. Unfortunately I didn't build my motor so I'm not 100% on what you would need to do with your "Hybrid" and the domed pistons. Mine are flat tops (from the pics I got from the PO).

If you're on Classic-Celica or Celica-GTS, send me a PM and I'll give you my contact info. I'm out in Denver working right now, so I might not be too much help at first.

lol I have slightly more compression than you.
But seriously, I thought you built your setup. For the record, there's no reason to go motorcycle carbs. they MAKE manifolds for you to just mount a big weber on and go on your way.

you see? your setup is amazing. my setup was cheap. (manifold is crap and was free from a friend, but needs to be redone, badly. carbs were $105, jets were $60, making it work cost me $200 in using a friend's shop time) what I NEED is someone like you to help me get the engine back out, clean the engine bay, get the wiring so it's not a mess, make sure everything is set up properly. mine is a clusterfuck.

I'm actually thinking of coming out to visit family soon (a few months). Might be able to hookup when I come out (I'll be in the Detroit area when I visit).

When I'm out there, I'm in Midland, Michigan, about 120 miles north of Detroit. recently I was homeless, now I'm moving to WI at least long enough to get a job and make some money. I just graduated college and have been trying to find a proper job that would let me stay in Michigan, but we'll have to see. the car is in a storage unit there.

I know Midland. Hit me up on one of the Celica forums (same name without the Emergency Management part). I'll help you as much as I can via the interbuttz, and if we should ever be near each other, you have my wrench.
