The best of the Z31s and the last straight 6 Z, for only $10,740. This is a fairly clean '87 200ZR-II, with T-Tops and Recaro seats. And the RB20DET engine, but that's so awesome I don't even need to mention it, as it would be unfair to other Zs on the market that don't have something that rad under the hood.

Sorry about the boner, Sparf.

That is a nice car, right there...

This makes me wonder what the engine mounts were. I wonder if they were universal for all RB-block engines (or at least an RB25DET) and if the Zs in other markets have the mounting areas still in them. I need to research this, and see if a US-spec Z31 could be converted to an RB engine using OEM 200ZR mounts and transmission or something.

Then again, it's probably easier to just replace components on the RB20, since you have quite a bit to work with already.

Based on the number of Z31s I've seen with RB25s dropped in them, it can't be that hard. The RB20, though, has enough of an aftermarket following in Japan (it was commonplace in Skylines and Laurels throughout the late 80s, and it continued on into the R32 Skyline, that you can do pretty great things with them.

Saw that one earlier, and as good as it looks it needs a bit of work to really shine.

Kinja'd!!!

This needs a proper exhaust and the bumper needs to be smoothed out. It's also missing a rear spoiler for some reason. I wish I knew what the options on this car was when it came out, but I don't. Judging from the cars I've seen for sale it seems like the spoiler was an option and is thus not found on all 200ZRs like I originally believed.

Kinja'd!!!

It's also got the boring factory 300ZX Turbo/200ZR Kouki front which lacks pizzaz (I believe I've seen an alternate front which has a more aggressive lip). This needs to be remedied.

Kinja'd!!!

I'm also not a fan of the wheels (yeah shoot me I don't like BBS wheels).

Overall? 7.5/10. It's definitely a NP, and an excellent starting point for a 260ZR-II build, but not that appealing in its current state.

Had it been a 200ZR-I slicktop I'd be needing new pants now.

I will now recalibrate to your precise tastes. I hope you at least got half a stalk from it.

From what I can gather the mounts will work for any RB engine, and the same goes for the crossmember (which is why 200ZR crossmembers are sought after by RB swappers). Swapping in an RB25DET seems to be very common and uncomplicated, and it seems the only reason why RB26DETT swaps aren't as common is that it's more expensive.

Nope, never have.

A contributing factor is that I almost exclusively like black wheels.

How do the mounts and crossmembers compare to a VG car? Would a set of aftermarket mounts, some good knowledge and reference, and some small changes into a US-Spec Z allow the RB swap to fit in like a

For example, the Dodge enines of the 60s and 70s usually had bolt places made for all of the options and different engines, so an engine swap was incredibly easy even if the engine wasn't offered, because of the standardized mounts and blocks.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I had the money, but I've started narrowing down what I need to look for and started hunting for 200ZR-Is (which are surprisingly rare finds on auction sites and the like).

I, too, generally dislike BBS wheels. I'm imagining that car on a set of, say Advan RG IIs or Work Ewings and I'm so turgid I could fuck holes in concrete.

I haven't seen any side-by-side comparison shots, but since every swap I've seen has started with the acquisition of a 200ZR crossmember (and RB mounts, which you can apparently get from NISMO - possibly indicating that they are just universal/Skyline RB mounts) it must be pretty important.

What if I buy the car and sell you the wheels, will that settle things?

Kinja'd!!!

I will replace them with four of these (5-lug 17 inchers and not 4-lug 15 inchers as pictured).

Watanabes are always awesome on anything Japanese from the 60s to the 80s. It's amazing how great those wheels look on cars from decades that featured such different styling.

Also, it would look so good on a set of Hayashi Streets that I'd probably instantly turn into a dragon upon seeing one.

Watanabe wheels are hot steamy sex, but I dislike chrome edge wheels
