I forgot how rude people are on the FP. I mean I get that lowered cars aren't for everyone, but Christ almighty, these people are hateful. I appreciate the time and effort and even the style, but I'm still not a fan of lowered cars because of the loss of function. Despite that, I can appreciate the car for what it is.

I've been there bro. It usually goes like this-
Whoo hoo I made the FP!
(Checks notifications sees 37 or more)
Reads 4 good ones and 30+ hateful ones,"Aww crap, I forget everytime"

Wait, Wut? In most cases lowering a road vehicle IMPROVES function. because CG

on the street, I'd say the lowered cg is just about cancelled out by the decreased ground clearance most of the time.

That is exactly how that went for me. I guess I should have expected it, but still :(

I don't remember if you were around then, but we had a full-blown stance war on Oppo a few months ago. Rule of thumb: people hate stance on Jalopnik.

Yeah I figured they would. I just hate when someone bags on a car that someone obviously put a lot of time and love into. We're all car guys; we just have different tastes. I thought maybe I could sneak this one past too since it's a Miata. NOPE.

Well, when you play with fire you have to be ready to get burned.

I haven't made FP yet. Not sure if happy....

Meh you're just missing out on a bunch of comments that seem to forget about human decency.

Meh, people always get mad. That's why I just generally assume I will make people mad and have fun with it. I can understand hating lowered cars... because there is only a slight amount you can do before it's useless as a car, but I can't understand stancing at all. It is important you elaborate which you supported to I know whether I should hate you or just disagree with you ;)

No. CG is a small part in the handling equation compared to suspension geometry, tire angle/traction area, etc. More often than not, lowering a car is going to impact handling negatively unless you do a lot more to rebalance and realign everything.
Lowering cars is about appearance over 90% of the time.

Just because something takes a lot of time, doesn't mean it's worth doing. Just look at 90% of the pictures I have drawn in my life LOL.

Hahahah it's not about supporting either. It's about shedding light on sub car cultures we might not understand or like. Like it or not, we're all car guys and we all love our cars even if it's for different reasons. That's going in the disclaimer for the next installment.

Just like why I try not to shine a light behind the fridge, I don't shine light on sub cultures... generally you won't like what you see. If something is a good idea, it will work it's way into the light on it's own.

You mean Oppositelock isn't the front page? If not for this board i'd never come here.

I guess I should have been more specific, as an old guy I forget many on this site are much younger and less experienced. Yes lowering CG will improve handling if done correctly. (I don't mean slammed to the ground) Any time you alter the height of your ride, as you do when you install lowering springs you upset the suspension geometry. Your roll center geometry as well as your bump steer geometry is affected. I have Steeda X2 ball joints on my track car to improve roll center and a bump steer kit so the toe doesn't change as the suspension compresses and rebounds. Handles great, looks good.

Yeah I haven't ventured over to the front page for two weeks until today. It was a mistake.

Exactly. The problem is that "lowering" can mean many things. Most people do it incorrectly, but when done correctly it can be positive. There are a lot of varying degrees of correct as well. Some people get camber back and think it's good, others require rates to be corrected as well. From the sounds of it, you are one of the few people (most likely due to the key word "track") that did everything to make it a total improvement.

I'd love to lower my 996 using the ROW M030 suspension parts, but I don't track the car and the roads suck enough that I know better.
